On behalf of the Essex HMVA I would like to invite all Cockpiteers and exhibitors who would like to attend to the Military and Flying Machines show at Damyns Hall airfield on 8th-9th August 2015.

If you scroll back to my original starting post you’ll see all the details about the show which will give you an idea as to what we do. Last year Stuart and Mike brought their cockpits and had a thoroughly good time, hopefully both will be able to attend again this year. It would be great to have more exhibitor participation, there was huge amount of interest generated last year which can only be good for the hobby.

The Essex HMVA are mindful of the costs of transporting large items and are willing to offer 100 per cent of the fuel costs to all exhibiting cockpiteers, in addition all exhibitors will get wristbands for the show and will be able to camp on site. The evenings entertainment is also free, I’m afraid we can’t offer free beer but prices are very reasonable! Just don’t overdo it and yes, I am talking about you BUNSEN HONEYDEW!

What do you say chaps? who’s up for joining us and bringing the hobby to a newer and larger audience? We’re not short of space so all and everybody are welcome, even the natives are friendly!

If you need any additional information please let me know.

    Regards,

    Glen

OK Folks here we go again!

The Military and Flying Machines show presented by the Essex HMVA will take place on the weekend of 8th-9th of August.

As last year everybody is invited to be our guests, we would welcome any cockpiteers / exhibitors who would like to join us, the show will be along the same lines as last year so look at my original post to find out more.

Planning is at an early stage so if any potential exhibitors would like to find out more please let me know. We have the space and resources to put on a really good weekend for everybody.

The aircraft are starting to be booked and the beer is on order!

    Regards,

    Glen Newman.

I thought the Lancasters were due to display at the Combined Ops show at Headcorn this Saturday and Sunday. However I’ve now heard a rumour that they aren’t displaying there on the Sunday. Does anybody know if the Lancasters will be displaying at Headcorn this weekend? and if so what days? Perhaps this is the reason for the re-fuel at Southend?

Alan, (post number #56) is quite correct, the show does take an enormous amount of work, planning for next years show actually began earlier this evening. As regards exhibits the show is only as good as people make it, if they aren’t prepared to bring out their toys whatever they may be there isn’t an awful lot we can do about it. As I’ve said before you can display anything aeronautical you like from cockpits to boarding cards, if you’re passionate about it we’re happy to welcome you along. I’ll look into the aerojumble idea although this may well arise of it’s own accord as there will always be a certain amount of bartering once like minded souls congregate!

A big thank you to Mike, Stuart, Alan, Gary and all the forum members who attended the Military and Flying Machines show. Public attendance was easily over the 20,000 mark, now that really is bringing the hobby to a whole new audience! A great time was had by all, the airshow although of moderate length included some outstanding flying including the best Spitfire display I have ever seen. There is film of it on Youtube if you care to look.

We will be doing the same thing again next year so once again all are invited, whatever you would like to display you are very welcome to attend. As the Essex HMVA are a charity all of the money collected goes into the next show. The more attractions, the more public attendees, the more money, the better the show, etc etc. All being well next year we will have B17 Sally B displaying again.

“we very rarely see much of any event we attend as we are so busy with the cockpit, that is why the Saturday evening at Newark is so valued by all who attend, when we all get to chat and look at each others cockpits.”

That’s the beauty of the Essex HMVA show, it’s all weekend and gives ample opportunity to mingle and play once the public has gone home. There is huge beer tent and catering vans on site, and 2 nights of free entertainment. The Essex HMVA understand the problems faced by cockpit owners and will happily chip in with some petrol money. It’s a real shame that more people didn’t embrace this event, hopefully more will take a leap of faith in subsequent years.

Great news Bunsen! the marquees go up tomorrow and your space is reserved.

If anybody else fancies it we still have space, just let me know.

Breaking news is that The Jive Aces are performing twice on the Saturday, the evening one is for the exhibitors only. They are a really top class act, you would normally pay £25 to see them at other shows.

Plans for the show are at an advanced stage, but we can always accomodate extra exhibitors so if there is anybody else who would like to attend our Military and Flying Machines show on 2nd-3rd August please drop me a line and I can make sure we make room for you and also organise your free weekend passes.

Mike, that’s great news I look forward to seeing you there.

Stuart, the answer is yes, you are more than welcome to camp beside your exhibit, there will be overnight security but I understand why you would want to be close to your pride and joy!

The Essex HMVA are starting to book the marquees and lay out the site plan for the show now, if anybody else would like to attend please let me know and we can make provision either inside or outside. Bookings and entries are now coming in thick and fast as is usually the case, there is plenty of room though and all are welcome so if you fancy joining us for what promises to be a great weekend get in touch.

A nice idea, but with a top speed between 20-25 m.p.h the Matador would create quite a tailback en route! It’ll be a nice easy duty for the transport crew, they’re used to 50 ton Shermans and Halftracks, your cockpits are a light as a feather by comparison!
