Ardvarscar – ashtonvillageuk is going to raise him from the dead to fly Concorde, which will be fitted with 8 x .303 machine guns for use at Duxford airshows.
Well, that should put paid to the trailing edge & flaps then!! 😉
Yee Haar! 😀
Cheers All

Guys, How about a little more tolerance? After all, If we all liked the same thing think how boring it would be, I have to say that personally, I think it’s about flogging a dead horse but If that is what folks want to do then what right have we to try and stop them?
Cheers ……………………………..

To brycheiniog & Maarvin, Good shots of ‘our’ Spitfire PR Mk19, could I copy them for my records please??
We waited all morning at Lynham to launch for Yeovilton,
Got to Filton Hangar at 08.00 picked up gear for Daily Inspection, drove to Lynham, dispatched Mk19 at 14.20 drove back to Filton, recovered Mk19 carried out post flight check on aircraft, got home about 17.30, a good day! It sounds like it was worth it!
Cheers………………
Do they come under a different rule not being a civilian operator?
The Army, Navy & Airforce have their own regulations seperate from the CAA,
Yes, I did mean the Fleet Air Arm.
Did anyone see the documentery ‘Mitchell’s do fly in IMC’ talk about marginal!!
Well hopefully lessons HAVE been learnt
Not, it seems, by the FAA!
On the re-build it WILL have a retracting tail wheel!
surviving what?? 😀 😀 😀
I alway thought that to survive you came through reasonably intact! maybe i’m wrong…………….. 🙂
There is a provision on most Merlins for turning the engine over with a type of cranking handle but that is for checking the timing not for starting it! maybe earlier engines had hand cranking systems, I know some later types had a Coffman (spelling??) cartridge starter, which I understand was fitted to the RR Spitfire Mk XIV G-ALGT for some time up untill the 70’s or 80’s.
Cheers………….
I had hoped that I could maybe help to get true information into this forum, from within the Warbird industry but it seems there are many out there that only want to speculate even if the truth is staring them in the face.
So I think this may be my last post on this forum as I really can’t be doing with it any more. I have more than enough to do & I need to take time out from here.
There are a lot of fine enthusiasts out there but there are also many so called enthusiasts who are so far up there own tailpipes that what ever they read they will speculate anyway.
To the friends I’ve made here, you know where I am.

They were fitted that way for some reason long before I got there. PM is the last so no more hammering or funny insertion tools for us,and no I wasn’t at Fairford.
Great, glad to hear it 😀 😀

PM631’s engine is being checked out by Retro and hopefully it should be back with us in 4 to 6 weeks, however because she was brought back by road we require new wing bolts to be manufactured. We are hoping if all goes well to have her in the air before the end of our display season.

Well, if you don’t hammer them in you stand a chance of re-using them again! 😉 😀
I’ve seen the drawing for your insertion tool, for hammering the bolts in! Why do you need one of those??
Cheers……………….
The Avenger was definately at Legends in 1994, but not 1998 and it has never been to a RIAT show before, nor I don’t think has any Skyraider?
Last time I saw the French Avenger was when I was at Duxford with Dan Griffith, Dan was flying Tony HT’s Avenger in formation with a Dutch owned PBY Cat & the French Avenger, as I remember it, the PBY nearly stuck Dan into the ground as he lowered the tip floats there by reducing airspeed & loosing height in a turn, Dan was at the bottom of the stack with only one place to go so firewalled the throttle & got out of there a bit quick! (the PBY cat did not fly formation again that weekend!)
I thought it was later than 94 though.

Who was the BLUE VAN MAN?????
[Aircraft parked too close together, well that’s a dumb statement even by your standards. But there we could have a 3 mile long flightline just for Alberts sake.
Okay, so we get charged an extra £4.00 to shoot aircraft 3/4 front and some with wings folded, some shot with tele-lens because they are too far back. The very least they could do would be to park them at a 45 degree angle so you could see all the markings. Not such a dumb statement when you are charging more and more money after you’ve paid your admission.
Albert, stop & think a little, you don’t 45 degree angle a big prop aircraft, the prop wash can do a lot of damage to the flying controls on AC parked close by. &, by the way, If you have ever tried to taxy a warbird you can’t see jack s**t out the front so you follow marshallers or ground crew for parking. If you don’t want to pay, don’t no one is holding you down to get your cash. The choice is yours!
good night I’m off to bed!
