So they have their own fuel bowser too! what an outfit!:D π π
Hi DazDaMan,
As I posted on another thread, Spitfires are Spitfires, A Spit is what you eject from your mouth when it has a nasty taste in it! I know it’s only a small thing but it really gets me going!! It’s a bit like calling an aeroplane a plane only more so.
Cheers π
It shouldn’t be too difficult to get the engine turning the other way, a change of cams, reverse the direction of the starter motor will get you most of the way there, mag timing & pumps will complete the change! Sorted!! π
Yep, I don’t care what you say that paint job looks the DB’s;)
The Miles Messenger (first pic) RG333 in Monty’s colours was an aircraft I looked after for Quite some years together with the Gemini just up the road from Bristol from a farm strip just by Bristol Airport. It’s good to see they are still flying!
On a purely operational point, I would rather see a Spitfire on 12″ wheels these days as it gives much better cooling to the brake bladders, 10.25″ wheels were OK in the days where you could start up, turn into wind & take off straight away but these days of taxying maybe a mile to the other end of the runway on perri tracks that go up & down the only way to steer a Spitfire on the ground is with the brakes, for those of you that don’t know, they operate by air, with the small dia wheels there is no space between the steel brake drum & the wheel rim so there is no heat dissipation from the drum so it heats the wheel up & has been known to blow the brake bag up or worse, jam the brakes on! With the 12″ wheels however there is a gap with cast vanes in the wheel rim to get some air flow over the drums to help get rid of some of the heat! Hope this helps.
Well, another milestone in my aviation career, 100 posts! I must get out more, My first milestone was ground running a Spitfire at Biggin Hill Aerodrome! Well, itβs all down hill from here!
See Ya!
I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling that way!
Hi All,
Put me straight on this one! Is there a charge/fee/subscription cost to post on here?? I know I have never been charged anything, If there isn’t, then lets put up with the glitches that occur from time to time, after all it’s not life threatening, Is It? All this talk about If it gets any worse Iβm going somewhere else, What is that all about? This Forum is FREE, accept it as such. If itβs not there one day It will probably be back the next so whatβs the problem? Or, If it is a problem, send a donation for Key to get a larger server, someone has to pay.
Thanks Key Publishing for paying for US to have this FREE facility!
If we all think of this site as being like a free Airshow, we gain the use of it for no outlay, Sounds good to me!
Cheers

I’m just about to look through what I have but I do have a problem with ‘giving’ Information to folks for genuine restoration only to find it later being charged for elswhere If you catch my drift.
Cheers…….;)
I don’t think you will find it there, unfortunately the search is not too specific & really unless you know the drawing number Spitfire drawings are a minefield! I will look tomorrow what info I can find for you, what are you going to use the drawing for? You know that the construction is really just ali tube & bent sheet joiners for the most part coming off a hinge spar.

Yep, now I understand, Cheers…….
