Great stuff TP, you remind me of that Beach Boys record…. “Round, round, get around, I get around!” 😀
Cheers…….but, i’m way too young to remember that!!! 😉 😉 😉
Can’t recommend it high enough Tom, just great to go to an airport, where spotters/photographers are actually welcomed 😮 ,never mind, catered for in so many ways.
Hmmm….Average, not quite got the “0” on “710” did you?? :dev2: :dev2: :dev2: Hehe only kidding, you have a real talent there, excellent, excellent drawing. 😀 😀
Excellent shots, especially the Eastern Saab…very good
Too many g’s overstress the airframe ;):D
TAXI for Murph :diablo: :diablo:
Look forward to seeing it here in Glasgow in about 5 weeks 🙂 I would prefer it had the “G’s” myself, looks very plain without(imo)
Very concise report, Robert. Possibly going to be visiting TXL with work soon myself.
Gary: i believe there are pre-arranged tours, but, anyone can go on the one we did, tickets from a kiosk on the terrace, where you also get your ticket for the shuttle bus to Dock E. The tour covers just about every bit of ground, passes every stand, the GAT, the biz hangars, Swiss maintenance, all 3 runway threshholds, the intersection of 34 and 10 where you can get out for 10-15 mins (insanely close!!), even covering the “Unique 1” area, where the fire, snow clearing, ops, ambulance, police, etc…. are.
Tour lasts 90 minutes and costs 16 SFR. Highly recommended for anyone, especially number crunchers(the driver even slowed down,on request, in the biz hangar area, so my mate could read off stuff in the hangar). There is live commentary in German, but, we could ask him things in English. About the only places it never went to were, r/w16 threshold, where there is a wrecked Air Afrique DC8 and some other wrecked bits, and a biz parking area just beyond Unique 1,which is also where the heliport is.
Excellent stuff, Chris..Brings back memories of living in Sydney about 10 years ago. Is the bus an airside tour??? never knew they had that at Kingsford-Smith. Good job.
Greekdude: Jury is out for me on the Transavia new c/s too, although very refreshing from the old…. Very happy to get both UA 767’s in new c/s (even if one had an “old” nosecone!!)
Kevin: the facilities are unfortunately non-existant…err, benches and a toilet!!(also a vending machine), the bus from terminal B is every 1/2 hour cost 4SFR return, but, the views are fantastic, every runway easily viewable, but in the afternoon when the sun is out, shooting 28/10 or 34 is hard
Thanks for the kind comments guys, No probs Kevin….was way too manky to be up the mound anyways 😮 😮 Agree fully Iain, about the Thai, looked awesome when the sun hit the tail..shot about 750 in total including 76 of the 2 Thai!!! Very lucky with the Kingfisher, however had to shoot from behind glass of the departure lounge in fading light.
RIP Concorde, well worth the visit, just for the ramp tour alone…about 60 feet from the runway at rotation point 😮 This shot of the Thai going up while a tour was at the stop point gives you an idea of how close you are:
lucky beggars 😎 😎
Good stuff, Robert. love the Mongolian..very swoosh, also, the 146 there, ended up in ZRH sunday evening (a wee bit better weather)
Final set. Hope i havent bored you all.
Cheers
Some more from Sunday. The 146 OH-SAL, you can see has 2 fire engines behind it which had just sprayed it, as it was the inaugural service of the flight, but, i did’nt get my camera together in time to catch it 😮
More from ZRH sunday.
On to Sunday, summer season starts and the mid dock terrace opens, weather a bit poor to start, but became a real scorcher in the afternoon. Back for another shot of the ramp tour, which reveals a First kingfisher A320 inside a hangar, a bit p’d at not being able to shoot it…but, more KLM calamity helped out on that one, our flight back to AMS had “technical difficulty” resulting in a 3 hour delay, during which the Kingfisher departed 🙂
However, this meant missing our flight home to Glasgow, and having to endure the pain of staying in the IBIS hotel Schipol (very nice/expensive) at KLM’s expense, finally getting home about 11am today, unfortunately the weather at AMS this morning was awful, only shot worth taking was the China Southern 747-400F.
And the rest for saturday at ZRH
