that logic does not apply here. both F-7 and Mirage III uses slot array Grifos and it would be cheaper and faster to go with Grifo as all weopons are integrated on this radar .
we’re talking about a different aircraft.
I continue to go back to Pakistan’s decision to equip the first 50 JF-17 with Chinese avionics/radar as the evidence for that.
or it could be that Pakistan is penny pinching on its purchases.. the country has alot of R&D, brilliant engineers, and such.. but they don’t exactly have the freedom to purchase whatever they want.. if they did they would’ve bought M2Ks instead of buying F-7s and upgrading their MIII fleets. The Chinese avionics aren’t necessarily bad, but it is assumed to be much cheaper than their western equivelent.
Question : What is Pakistan’s technical (not financial) contribution to the FC-1/JF-17 ?
its easier access to western technologies. The end result is that Pakistan can configure a Chinese aircraft that has the potential to be even superior to what their Chinese counterparts use. Some would even argue that such access from Pakistan was significantly vital to the FC-1 and J-10 programs as China.
keep in mind that Pakistan has two major allies, China and the US.
nice pics. that’s one of the greatest advantages Pakistan has.. not only are they able to purchase aircraft from China and have the option of both Western and Chinese avionics.. but they also have access to being able to train with both China and the US..
Why don’t you ask the Pakistanis, they seem to be fairly satisfied with F-7PG. Although one did crash recently, not sure what the cause is.
yup, Pakistan likes its F-7PGs, its a great think that Pakistan has the flexibility to buy both from China and fit it with western equipment.
I’m anti-Free Trade, I don’t see why people in developing countries should work their butts off for pathetic wages so Westerners can live in extreme comfort due to cheap goods.
its not just western countries either.. some Asian countries are very active in it as well.

If the Neoconservatives are still in power (whether it be in the Democratic party or the GOP).. then yes, the US will be active in the Balkans because they view the Balkans as one of the areas of primary interest. When Clinton went ahead with Kosovo, the Neocons in the GOP were supportive despite alot of criticism and opposition from other conservatives who viewed the war as outside of the interest of the US.
you can see much of their stance on the Balkans here:

No….technically I’m Welsh….no Hispanic blood whatsoever…

i see, you have a really distinct look, as odd as it may sound I was going to suggest Finnish next 😛
The USN has always been hyper-sensitive when it comes to being compared to the USAF. (The idea is to make it hard for Congressional staffers to do direct comparisons between the services). For that reason, the USN changed the way they tracked Maintenance Manhours per Flight Hour (MMH/FH) in 1990. At that time they dropped manhours that used to appear on the Support Action Form (SAF) but continued to report Maintenance Action Form (MAF) manhours. The USAF pulled a comparable move in 1992 when they stopped reporting Support General manhours (similar to USN’s SAF).
All that said, there wasn’t a significant difference between the two airplanes when land based (less than 10% difference). This is because both used equivalent technology equipment built by the same suppliers. A slight difference in favor of the F-15 was the AMADs. This allowed F100s to be changed without ops checkouts of hydraulics and electrical power generation. When the F-18 hit the fleet, the engine change issue went away because the F-18 has AMADs too.
Comparing ship basing to shore basing showed a big difference because the minimum stay below deck for serious maintenance was 3 days, TF-30 engine changes taking as long as 9 days.
thanks and yes, cross comparisons between USN and USAF models are difficult. however I’m pretty surprised how little the difference in maintenance is between the two (when land based).. from what you said.. where did you hear this?
Joseph Stiglitz has written some excellent books advocating free trade, i would recommend reading some of his books if you are interested in this issue.
I would say that free trade is a good thing, but there are times when it has to be limited. For example, to allow your own industries to get a running start and for some, strategic industries.
But on the whole, economic theory says yes, free trade is good and we should embrace it. It might bring some pain in the short term, but ultimatel yeveryone will be better off.
i thought Stiglitz was against it and globalization?

corsair, are you hispanic by any chance?
You really don’t understand.
NOBODY KNOWS WHAT INDIA WANT.
what does the Rafale offer when compared to the existing force structure of Su-30MKI, MiG-29, Bisons, Mig-27 and Jaguars, and in the future more Su-30MKIs, LCA and some 5th generation aircraft?
Sorry but I wonder where this myth comes from.
For the french AF, it’s twice better than a mirage 2000.
Cheaper to run ? with a single engine, not a real achievement.
EAsier to maintain ? The goal of Dassault is to makes you wrong, I’m not sure of teh current status by now.
Avionics and radar. The immature F1 Rafale perhaps. As soon as you’re talking of the F2 it’s quite different.
the Rafale is important for the French Navy, but what does it have to offer for India that the Mirage 2k can’t do? don’t compare the two in terms of specs against each other..compare the two on how they will do missions required by India.
