#5-For the role intended, the Rafale doesn’t add enough capability over the 2000 to justify the extra cost. They’ve already got the multi-engine super fighter in the Su-27 series.

    Mr TX,
I agree with you, not only on that, but in regards to the Rafale in general. In its current form it is superior to the M2K yes, but performance gap is not that large enough to warrant the higher price tag.. especially since the M2K is cheaper to run and probably easier to maintain, but can carry the same weapons and whose avionics and radar are not that far behind.

what’s with all these negative posts..
Cheney is a pretty old man, the guy he shot, even older.. perhaps senility kicked him leaving one man’s aim very inaccurate, and the other with no sense of direction.

at least when you’re hunting with Cheney, you know he has a medical entourage near by

I’m not chinese or vietnamese, so forgive my ignorance on this.. what grievances does Vietnam have with China after the war in the 70s.. I thought a treaty was signed.. is it the Spartly and other Islands.. I recall a naval battle there.. but things seem to be going peacefully after that.

Is it historical.. like ancient enemity?

PS: I wish we asians could put up a united front like the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, etc. These people have fought each other like anything but when they face us they are almost always united.

exactly my point.. there’s not too many reasons for the animosity other than South China Sea issue and Mekong river dams..but alot of nationalists on both sides would rather indulge on historical issues than looking forward to the future. hell even China and India were on good terms (or at least, had nothing to do with each other) before the border war. like wise you go to Europe, Fins aren’t exactly hating on Russians even though they have alot of lost land, people move on.

I’m all for defending freedom of speech, but where are we going to draw the line on safety? While the US barely has any involvement in this issue, it does put at risk US soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq who have to deal with these crowds. some of which are already burning American flags (surprise surprise?)

actually $251 billion is in PPP estimation and no where wean the real value of only $45.61 billion as stated by the IMF. BTW I don’t like the PPP charts because we can’t really take into account all the prices of all products and what not. Too much variables and usually in the cases of developing countries their GDP figure is usually bloated beyond proportions.

so then why are your figures more accurate if you admit that they are bloated?
could you actually post a link to IMF numbers? It would be greatly appreciated if you could return the courtesy to back up your numbers instead of pulling random numbers and facts up, especially since they rely on assumptions of bloated proportions and what not, but failed to be applied in this specific situation on how inaccurate ADB and CIA world factbook numbers are

by the way, even the IMF shows numbers on par with CIA and ADBs statistic

And what’s this nationalistic drivel you are accusing me of?
Did I suddently come out and declare I hate Vietnamese or something?

the Nguyen guy started it and was quite open about it, your reply continues it.

OMG how could a single purchase of 1 billion be not enough?
If anything they are already spending way too much.

the official GDP is only $45.61 billion(2005 est) with outsanding debt of 75.5% of GDP…

its actually $251 billion (2005 est)
    http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/vm.html#Econ
with external debt only $19 billion

the older Asian Development Bank pdf puts the GDP around there and external debt being around 30% of gdp
    http://www.adb.org/Documents/CERs/CER_VIE_2000.pdf

but it doesn’t matter.. it’s this kind of nationalistic drivel from hallo84 and the nguyen guy based in traditional animosities that keeps Asian countries apart. fortunately the governments of both countries are moving forward together and have solved a large number of disputes already. China grows, Vietnam will grow along with it. China could use a periphery that isn’t in Africa or Islamic.

Christians aren’t all that bad in the development of Europe. The Quakers were very influential on Britain’s industrial development. At a time where most universities taught in dead/foreign languages.. the Quakers set up institutions that focused on science and trade and taught in English. It was their institutions that reformed western education. They also were responsible for developing alot of the infrastructure such as using mini barges that would travel on man made, raised wooden waterways that allowed products to be moved in bulk and faster.. as well as building more roads (using Irish laborers). Keep in mind, Quakers are not the Amish (who people tend to confuse them with) as the latter practices traditional life styles while the former has always placed a heavy emphasis on science and business.

With Vietnam returning to China’s sphere of influence like they traditionally have.. I can see them purchasing smaller aircraft like K-8s and helicopters..maybe not fixed wing combat aircraft yet..

    Nepal too.

and TP is right, Pakistan has made great strides in its domestic aviation industry and will be able to produce smaller aircraft on their own.

Neocons and chumps are just exact opposites to terms like softies or weenie liberals. Provide a nice balance in the vocabulary.. 😎

actually neocons are pretty close to liberals.. most, if not all neocons were once liberal and democrats, and some were even farther to the left.. they were Trotskyites! (thats commies to the layman). Even though they switched parties in the 70s and 80’s and adopted a more aggressive foreign policy and some religiously connected issue (stem cells, gay marriage, etc).. they’re still pro big govt and big spending like liberals. real conservatives are being drowned out.
