This photo and a description appears on ‘staffspasttrack’ historical photo site, where it states that the lorries are from HMS Sanderling, which was an RN maintenance and storage base at Abbotsinch.I suppose that as there were no motorways at the time they might have been on their way to or from there.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that Balliol. That would be the the one that the Frenchman was flying in the film, which landed over the top of haystack with a couple misbeaving themselves in then?:) Haven’t been to Halfpenny Green since they staged the Kings Cup Air Race there in 1967.

Yes,thats the one, flown by Monsieur duBois.I believe that Jean-Pierre Cassals was chosen for the part because he was one of the few actors small enough to get in it and it was actually flown by the late Joan Hughes because she was one of the few suitably experienced pilots light enough for it to become airborne reasonably safely.

Thanks Will, this looks very interesting but is the first I have heard of it?
Their website states ” aircraft from those Magnificent Men in the Flying Machines”….which ones, as I can’t see the Shuttleworth collection allowing their Boxkite and Triplane to fly all the way there from Old Warden?

The Demoiselle replica has been borrowed from RAFM Stafford.

Also if anyone has any connection with or fond memories the old Wolverhampton airport at Pendeford you may find a few familiar faces at the event.————Balliol.

Aston, pah! You’d obviously have to stay on-theme and keep a classic Bristol in the front…! (And no, not a VRT)

OK,it’ll have to be a Super Freighter for the Bristol,Aston and Alvis T20.

    Ah!…but WHICH Aston?

There are doubtless better cars available now, but it would just have to be a dark red DB5 convertible with wire wheels.(Despite maintenance costs approaching those of the Freighter!)

Very nice but I’ll stick with the childhood dream——
Bristol Freighter, living quarters in the back,Aston Martin in the front.

    :confused:Hello, there’s a post missing:confused:

Colin, it has to be said that the Balliol rebuild/recreation looks fantastic, as does the Overstrand, are you involved with them?

I was quite involved with the BP Association until a few years ago when changes in work & other commitments put paid to that.I assisted with a few jobs on the Defiant & Balliol replicas in the early stages, but can’t claim any major contributions.Still a member but unfortunately only an occasional visitor
    these days.

    Colin.
