It’s simple really though isn’t it? Risk breaking the speed limit, however it is set and however it is enforced, and face the consequences.

He was done for interfering with the actions of a Police Officer whilst lawfully carrying out his duty.

What a nice safe easy job, and they can get money from you. Far better than catching real law-breakers where there maybe an element of danger involved. Two young lads in my local off licence were hiding cans of beer in their baggy summer clothes, two hundred yards down the road stood two coppers, the young-un being shown by the elder how to Nick people for going 3mph too fast. And they were just 100yards from a fixed camera.

Baker Street will always be one of my top favorite records closely followed by Right down the line. A sad loss. RIP.

One of my all time favorites. The car chases, the slang and ofcourse the music. I had that as a ring-tone on my mobile for ages. Good to know that the Ford Consul is being restored, though personally I prefer the later Ford Granada. I had one for a year or so..superb car !! Thinking about it ? it was my definite Favorite ! followed closely by Minder. 🙂 Recently watched a couple of the Professionals….seemed a bit corny now 😡 compared to the Sweeney.

[Quote= Music; Regards theme music, only a one-off programme I know, still waiting for the sequel… the tune to the Long Good Friday film is superb !!!! anyone remember it ?? 🙂

    Whitley Bomber.

Am I the only-one to have read that poem of a mothers grief at losing her young son without a tear in their eye. My Dads first ever flight whilst in the ATC 1944 was aboard a Whitley flying from RAF Oakley/Worminghall. Later in Wellingtons from Brize Norton. Thankfully my [Young Aviator] is still with us at age 84 and a half. 🙂

    Dig 1940.

I watched that tonight and thought it was very good! Better than last week in-as-much that it included the pilot of the recovered aircraft [Hurricane] Was that part 2 or 3 ??

    The Sweeney.

Changing the subject slightly, when Jack Regan, after a few years, retired into the older Inspector Morse based in Oxford we often saw his red Jag driving around. On one occasion I was asked to stop by the ‘real’ police whilst in the Eastgate area…within a few minutes Morse appeared from a college back-gate trailed by his sidekick, C’mon Lewis Morse shouted. Got into the Jag and drove off…Excellent stuff !!!

Love that Christmas tree decoration of yours. A while ago I bought my dad a lovely print of a Sunderland taking-off. In 1940 my dad was evacuated to the Pembroke dock area during his stay there he loved to watch the Sunderlands taking-off and landing til late in 1941. Much later after this he joined the ATC hoping to later get into the RAF….. wasn’t needed. A Happy Christmas to one and all. 😎

I thought it was a good first programme, and I’ll certainly be watching the rest, but I do have a couple of criticisms…

Perhaps I missed something, but in neither of the aircraft digs (Ju87 & Do17) was any mention made of the crews of these aircraft. Who were they and what became of them?? Were any/all of them killed?? It seemed to me that the programme wasn’t as poigniant as it might have been, there seeming to be a ‘let’s see what we can find’ mentality to the show, rather than a ‘who should we be remembering’ one. This was also evident in the Maginot Line segment, where it was mentioned very briefly at the end about the deaths of several hundred French soldiers after the ventilation system was knocked out. Didn’t they deserve a longer and earlier mention and a more thoughtful approach?? There seemed to be more interest in the pots and pans in the kitchen.

Perhaps the above problem was caused by my other grouch- that the programme was too short, the result being that none of the segments was as detailed as it could/should have been.

In essence, interesting and lots of interesting ‘stuff’ to look at, but not much poigniancy or thoughtful backround info and so not as engageing as it might have been.

All of that said, it’s great that 1940 has had so much media coverage this year, and it’s nice that the Beeb have continued to trickle this stuff out through the year rather than pushing it all out in one weekend and moving on.

Agree with all that’s said here. Seemed a bit rushed to me with a very brief mention of the terrible suffocation of the French soldiers. I was hoping to see a memorial to them, and the not mentioned airmen of the aircraft recovered. Otherwise a very interesting programme.

What a coincidence ! Many thanks for that BSG-75. Shall have to get my video-player fixed as I’ve got loads of WW2 stuff to see again as well.

I still have an episode on tape though don’t now remember what it was titled as my video player has long-since packed-up. It was a story about one of the top brass coppers who had a secret to hide about his shady past during the Korean/ Vietnam war. How his gang were responsible for the murder of civillians, including children. This bent copper paid some of his old Army pals to nick this damning evidence from a certain location but it went wrong when one of them broke or twisted his ankle and was left behind. One of the gang went to shoot him but was stopped by the leader who said ”Don’t he wont talk” or something like that. Anyone have a clue what i’m talking about…..:)
