The Carenado one is a lovely model, on par with all of their recent work. I’d love to see them depart a little from spam cans though, isn’t it about time we had a decent T6 for FS ?

Ok guys, enough ! I’m jealous !
Martin, don’t worry I bought the sim Yak of my own volition. I’m lucky really thats it’s the first really duff add on I’ve bought but I purchased it on impulse.
I’m not saying it’s all bad, there’s potential for a great add on but it the mean time I’m back to flying the Carenado T34 Mentor…
Bruce
Just set the airport you want to start at then from the menu save the flight but make sure you tick the box that says ‘Set As Default Flight’ (or similar)

I’ve bought many payware aircraft and they are sometimes of variable quality but have to admit I was quite dissapointed with this one. The model looks very nice and flies well enough but it feels unfinished, take a look at the 2d sub panels: the radio panel is unpopulated (just a blank square!) The VC is nicely executed but I find I have to adjust the viewing position every time as the default position has the outside of the canopy on show ! Also the VC view seems very low to the ground considering the real aircraft has such a long under carriage. The manual is waste of space as well, it would have been nice to see some sort of checklist or start up sequence, in the end I jsut gave up and used ctrl+E, most unlike me !
It’s a real shame they have released the aircraft in such an unfinished state. It’s got real potential, but as it is it really doesn’t match up to my expectations for a payware aircraft. This is the first aircraft I’ve paid for that hasn’t lasted a week on my hard drive.
Just my thoughts of course !
Bruce
Terry,
Glad to have been of help. The forums over there are also a great resource if you particularly like classic british aircraft.
I think this site was down over the weekend, I was getting the same error message.

Bruce
Dave Maltby did one, probably the same guy who did the VC-10 you’re flying !

You mention your speed being too high despite having thrust at idle – Try controlling your rate of descent with thrust and your airspeed by adjusting pitch input/angle of attack.
Check out http://www.hovercontrol.com
Everything you ever needed to know about helos in FS. Including a virtual rotary wing ‘rating’ !
Turning realism down is cheating !
Bruce
It should be easy.
Set the location (airport and stand) you want. Swap to a simple aircraft such as the default Cessna 172 and shut everything down (Battery, Alt, all light switches etc) then swap back to the aircraft you want to start in. Save the flight and make sure you check the box marked ‘set as default flight’
Hope This Helps,
Bruce
Nice to see she’s going ‘home’

Albert – this thread would be a good place for Syerston JP3s, around 1961, or should I stop asking ?
I wondered how long that would take… 🙂
Tell ’em about the dayglo knights and pawns ?

4. Isn’t a real aeroplane – not Hess’s Bf110 but the replica seen recently on eBay (built for a television program and mentioned on these forums)
Whilst ‘sweeping and ill informed’ might sound harsh I feel that without considering the ‘payware’ add ons you are not seeing the full potential of FS2004.
If you’re basing your opinion of FS2004 on freeware models and the default aircraft then I would be inclined to agree with you. Whilst there are some superb freeware models for FS2004, I’ve yet to come across a really good PA28. The commercial models I mentioned above are significantly better than any of the freeware PA28s, both in terms of visual modelling and flight dynamics.
RealAir (http://www.realairsimulations.com) don’t do a PA28 but all the models have exceptional flight models, with specific emphasis on the stall/spin, which is why I mentioned them here.
Unfortunately none of the commercial models mentioned offer a ‘demo’ version and there is no way I would wish to get involved in providing you with a copy for ‘evalutaion’ purposes. If you’re serious about that however you could always ask one or more of the companies listed above for a ‘review’ copy ?
Cheers,
Bruce
the flight model is not replicated very well on flight sim at all, you cannot sideslip, the stall behaviour is incorrect and you cannot spin the damn things, the only thing flightsim is good for really is VFR nav (if you have the right scenery) and IFR protocol.
I’d like to point out that many add on flight sim aircraft have more realistic flight models that do include (relatively) realistic side slipping and stall/spin performance (for example the models created by Real Air simulations)
Whilst I’m not suggesting flight sim is in any way suitable for pilot training (it is after all mass produced entertainment software or even (gulp!) a ‘game’) I do feel your comments here were somewhat sweeping and possibly ill informed.
Rant over ! 🙂

Hi,
There are several PA28s for FS2004, first try the usual freeware file libraries such as AVSIM.COM and FLIGHTSIM.COM.
Better quality but ‘payware’ models are available from :
Carenado (Cherokee 180, Archer II & Dakota)
Dreamfleet (Archer II)
AusSim (Warrior II/II)
Just Flight (‘Flying Club’ package includes a Warrior which can be purchased seperately online)
I’ve tried all but the ‘Just Flight’ model and particularly like the Dreamfleet Archer – although it’s an older model (updated from FS2002) it is still excellent. I’d look forward to hearing your opinion !
