thats great!!!! 2nd customer followed by RSAF:)
Not quite… third customer after RSAF and Swiss AF. If orders keep coming in like lately, Pilatus will soon have to open a new production line.
But let’s not get overzealous: The signature on the UAE contract is still missing afaik.
NZZ reports that pilot probably disregarded recommendations
Todays NZZ am Sonntag reports that the Swiss Air Force recommended an altitude of 500m – 1000m above ground in their briefing with the German pilot prior to the fatal flight, due to cables and heavy paraglider/ helicopter activity. Unfortunately the pilot seems to have disregarded these recommendations. π
Perhaps second hand Swedish A&B models? This really sounds way too cheap to be for new ones.
It’s looking good for the little Swede
A MoU with Bulgaria, the Thai selection… the little Swede is making progress on the sales front, no doubt. Small steps, but nevertheless.
That should be at least 20 Thai chicks for every Swede in return.
Their chocolate is vastly overrated though.
I strongly disagree here. I bet you haven’t tasted the true delights yet if you issue statements like this one.
Try “Avelines” by FavergΓ© or “Torino” by Camille Bloch. It’s almost like flying a Texan π (Well, I couldn’t really tell, I conceed)
PS: Cuckoo clocks are made in the Black Forest, Germany, by the way.

Lots of pics like the one below on the official Air04 website

That’s right, that’s me elsewhere π
Today was the official handover ceremony, by the way. Here’s a pic:

Main contents in English: “bla bla, bla bla, bla bla …. …all in all twelve Tigers are leased by Austria, the next four will be delivered around Dec/Jan 2004/05, the last batch in mid 2005.”
Amazing how fast this deal proceeded from the announcement of negotiations to sales talks, to training of the Austrian pilots, plane overhawl, paint job and finally the delivery of the first four planes: All of this in less than five months.
Most people think of the Swiss as kind of slow, don’t they?
Wanna apply for the job to redesign the JSF? Your proposal sounds pretty good. It would just probably end up being a completely different aircraft after these “slight modifications”.
Spain: Hawk, Skyguard (Aspide + 35mm), Mistral
Switzerland: Hawk (not sure), Rapier
Switzerland has no Hawk, but Stinger instead.
LM cant compete with Gripen unless they offer the latest block F-16
I’m not sure the US is convinced: During the Czech tender the local US ambassador insisted that the second hand American, Dutch and Belgian F-16 offers were far superior to the Gripen, certainly offers they shouldn’t reject… It was quite a show.
I just love the camo, you don’t see that on any of those European ones, I saw the French one in Camo but Green/Black is very dark and drab, throw in a bit of brown and wolah there you have it π
Indeed! It shows true Australian colours: The eucalypt- green, the clay- red. Reminds me a little of the big tapestry in the parliament house.
Well, even if all rumours should become truth, there’s no need to boast and claim dominance.
The Gripen is an excellent home defence asset, but not much more. It clearly has its limitations in range and weapon load. This could be a good signal saying: “We’re not really in a position to attack you, but don’t mess with us, we’re prepared.”
This could actually contribute to a more peaceful neighbourhood.
Could it be that all these Gripen rumors put L-M into lobbying frenzy in Washington again? These spares could just be the beginning.
They certainly won’t like seeing a big potential defense deal with a former customer slipping out of their hands. Given their record in the Czech Gripen deal I wouldn’t be supprised to hear them giving Pakistan some “well meant” advice about which new (or second hand) fighter plane would be the best for their country… π
Looks a little less vague. This would indeed be the biggest Gripen export by far and for years to come. 44 +60 options would give the program a big boost.
Now I just wonder how truly reliable this “reliable source” is. Still nothing new on the Gripen homepage.
They should get those second hand F/A-18 A/B from Canada. Would be our F-18 hamburger boy’s nightmare…
