    Don’t knock the weather…………..

I went in 2005 as the first day of hols. Walked out of ‘comfortable’ UK temps straight into clear blue Chino skys…..and 110 degrees… 😮

Only managed an hour of the show, despite buying brollys for some shade, so it was either die on the airfield, or head back to the car and get the A/C on quickly…

    Me Too……..

    Hey,

I was at the Leathernecks museum on the 8th June… 😀

Unfortunately, the skys were grey due to the ‘June Gloom’ during my visit, but I still managed to get a few good pictures.

I read your comments with great interest – I have been trying for a long time to get my images on airliners.net, without success, but I still persevere.

I am just curious now, I have many images on airfleets.net and wondered why the same images are rejected by airliners.net. I understand that the two sites are different and have different objectives but I would appreciate some constructive criticism over my images and their inability to meet the criteria of airliners.net

    Hiya,

Just had a quick look through the first 3 pages of you pictures…you have some excellent stuff there…

From an Anet point of view, many have bits of the wing or tail clipped off, and many are also low in the frame.

Read the FAQ, follow the ‘rules’ and you’ll get some in. Any picture thats not showing the entire aircraft will be much harder to get accepted.

I take pictures for myself, re-edit my favs/best to Anet criteria and bung ’em in when I have time or get bored!! I’m still slowly working through last years shots.

Its great fun to ‘sneak’ a marginal shot thro, I’ve had some quite poor ones make it…all good fun for those long dark winter nights.. 😀

    Hi Mark,

Gerry’s previous post/workflow seems fine, but guessing he’s more of a pro?

I use a much quicker approach to airliners net, and although I’ve used RAW, I tend to stick to jpeg for quicker processing. It can still take me many hours to shift through an afternoons shooting….and I’ve other hobbies to fit into a weekend…

My current stats roughly…78% accepted, 829 pics with nearly 500,000 hits. 😎

    I’m shooting with a 300D, and mostly a 100-400L lens.

    My workflow PS Elements,
(if the aircraft’s not 75% filling frame of original I don’t even try):-

Level any ground shots to horizon/verticals.
    Crop to compose/frame.
Resize to 1024 wide. (height must be 683 minimum).
    ‘View actual pixels’
Equilize to check for dust spots.
    Un equalize.
    Clone out spots if required.
    Adjust brightness/contrast/colour saturation if required.
    Unsharp mask at 500% 0.2 0 once and re-save.
Re open pic, might do another unsharp mask at 150%, 0.2 0 if required, and save once more.

I do 10 to 20 at a time, then leave them until the next day, click through to double check quality, then upload the best/nicest looking ones.
Its good fun to slip in a lower quality one now and again…them screeners can still be beat… :dev2:

I didn’t get as far as a chat with the long lens brigade – sorry chaps! – though I might have seen Manonthefence stood onacamper again, and Septic can’t have been far from us when he took the pic’s posted of the Bleriot (we were leant on the gate – oo ar!). Good place for spotting odd cameras too – a Stereo Edixa my top spot

Hey…I was leaning on the gate…my fav spot at the moment.. 😀

Caught a snap of this…is it the ‘Stereo Edixa’?

    Do you have Photoshop?

I’ve scanned a couple of old pics, just made them black and white with the ‘remove colour’, then applied some unsharp mask to enhance a little.

    regards
