UK is always better off collaborating with europe on arms stuff because it is automatically a senior partner and peer of france and germany in capability and economy.
the 2600:150 US:UK buy ratio tells its own tale.Kohler has just been blunt about the reality which people try to avert their eyes from – the US doesnt treat anyone as a equal, it doesnt need to.
I agree, the UK has again spent too much money on too few aircraft.
The RAF should have become a all Typhoon force and the FAA could have purchased STOVL JSF like everyone else.
I guess its too late to save any money by pulling out of the program 🙁
Just wondering…. what would the benefit be (if any) of switching the new A-350 for the A-330 as the basis from the EADS tanker product?
The only benefit I can see is that the A350 is supposed to be more efficent than the A330.
The drawbacks would be you would have to wait until its built and I’m not sure if the wing can have refuelling pods fitted as easily as the A330.
Any idea whether the Italian or planned Japanese KC-767 can themselves be refuelled?
Anyone have photos of the Italian (top forward fuselage)?
Yes they can, you can see the receptacle bump just above the cockpit in the first set of photos.
More images here http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/tanker/767photos.html
The Japanese KC-767 isn’t shown with a receptacle though?
I think the video you speak of has been posted here before, I can remember the runaway truck anyway 🙂
I guess if heavy vehicles are air dropped the risks are higher than for light vehicles. The Russian system with the rockets that fire just before touchdown seems like it should cut down on impact damage.
According to Brassey’s world aircraft and systems directory 1999/2000
– max diameter or width is 32.5ins (826mm)
– lenght is 204.9 (5,204mm)
– specific fuel comsuption (also with AB) it doesn’t say but AMX spey is 0.659lb/lbf/hr (18.67g/KNs) take-off maximum and BAC 1-11 spey is 0.82lb/lbf/hr (23.23g/KNs).
– airflow ?
– dry weight is 4,093lb (1,856kg)
Hope that helps.

Foward or Aft Island?
Both, the engine rooms are widely spaced and the 2 island design allows for the minimum amount of air/exhaust ducting to each engine room.

Why the twin islands on the CVF design? Seems like a horrible waste of deck space to me…………
They house the funnels for the engines too.
I think Scooter intends the cheap DDH to have no offensive armament or systems, only defensive ones.
The helicopters are the offensive weapon system.
Are UCAVs going to be designed like cars ”Same shape, different make” 🙂
