Thanks DJJ, I think its a very bad idea to put so many aircraft into so few bases, the MOD should know better. 🙁
If the MoD can’t find the money for decent weapons, they certainly won’t be able to find the money for a better platform.
Storm Shadow and Paveway IV are being brought for other aircraft anyway, it will only take a bit of wiring, software and aerodynamic work to get these weapons on to the Nimrod.
Pic of standard 500lb Paveway IV and laser guided/winged version.
The picture illustrates the hanger deck layout of the final BAE Systems CTOL design of late 2002. More pics here http://frn.beedall.com/cvf2.htm
Good idea, I think they should give it a tanker role too.
6 Merlins take up the space of 4 JSFs in this hangar.
Nice idea, a mobile floating landing pad and hangar with a few self defence systems operating 6 Merlin type helicopters capable of ASW, ASuW, AEW, CSAR, troop transport and disaster relief would be useful.
This just reinforces my opinion that the GR7s should have been upgraded to AV-8B+ standard with the Sea Harriers Blue Vixen radar fitted.
The RAF needs to stop operating combat aircraft that are only good for one role (a2a or a2g).
The GR9 in the linked picture hasn’t got the 100% LERX, is this not going to be fitted?
Great pics, will RAF Leeming get Typhoons?
2.A little off topic, but still dealing with the Hawk family, since the T-45 Goshawk has replaced the TA-4J in the training role, why not the aggressor role as well? IMO,it would provide a cheap, reliable, agile aggressor aircraft.
Nice idea, the RAF and RN use Hawks in the aggressor too.
I guess new build T-45s might be too expensive compared to standard Hawks though.
So potential customers can have a go? 🙂
Nice pics.
Looking at this picture I don’t think the canard blocks the cannon at any position. http://www.eurofighter-typhoon.co.uk/
How about one museum and two artificial reefs?
😮 All that extra weight! They should make more room on carriers so that the jets can carry more weapons instead of hauling around these mechanisms.
Or, make some carrier planes with short undercarriages and some with long undercarriages so they can overlap when stored in the hanger. 🙂
