Excellent :), that small pod under the Hawk has a unusual mounting.
I think Invincible should be turned into a museum as it is a Falklands veteran.
Are they developing a new SDB bomb rack for the B-2?
In this pic a 4 SDB adapter fits on a rotary launcher station giving a maximum SDB loadout of 64 (4x SDB, 8x stations, 2x launchers).
I believe a 6 SDB rack is being developed for B-1 and B-2 rotary launchers.
So loadout for the B-1 would be 144 (6x SDB, 8x stations, 3x launchers).
The B-2 would carry 96 (6x SDB, 8x stations, 2x launchers).
The B-2 can carry 80 500lb dumb bombs (500lb JDAM too?) on vertical racks so I guess the 6 SDB rack has been designed to be used as a mixed loadout with other weapons on the rotary launcher stations.
Nice website,
This site http://www.hmsbristol.plus.com/frameindex.htm features a Ikara firing in its photo gallery.
Go to http://www.jsf.mil/index.htm for JSF info.
Internal fuel loads are 18,498lb for F-35A, 13,326lb for F-35B and 19,624lb for F-35C according to http://www.jsf.mil/f35/f35_variants.htm
I agree Phil, the SHAR FA2 has the best all round weapons system the UK has operational and where going to loose it, stupid! 🙁
I think the RAF consider replacing the Buccaneers with a upgraded F-117 too.
Heres some pics
the GR4 is likely to be replaced by a combination of JSF’s, Typhoon’s, UAV’s and cruise missiles, it is almost certain that there will be no new aircraft type to replace the GR4.
I agree, the combat roles of the GR4 will be replaced by new systems and weapons rather than a purpose built manned aircraft.
The UCAV may be the only new airframe http://www.darpa.mil/j-ucas/
Terrible pics ;), you can only see the nose of 1 Sea Harrier, less GR7 more FA2 please 🙂
I remember a proposal for a ejection seat that contained a hot air balloon system so the pilot wouldn’t need to land in enemy territory.
The parachute would deploy as usual then convert into a one man hot air balloon envelope and be kept aloft by a small burner until picked up in mid air by a C-130 with Fulton(?) recovery gear.
Has there ever been a successful rebuild/remanufacturing program that actually saved time and money?
Nice pics, what are the wingtip pods on the Dutch(?) Apaches?
Thanks turboshaft,
Thats disappointing news, I wonder if we will ever see a operational compound Lynx or Merlin for special ops or CSAR?
New trailer for ‘STEALTH’ http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/stealth/trailer_2/
I wonder if directed energy weapons will lead to large bomber type aircraft with nose and tail mounted laser turrets and lots of hypersonic stand off missiles?
