Thanks for sharing Jai, some nice footage of weapon releases and a 20mm Gatling gun test is always entertaining.
Maybe they could remove the turrets and fit them to a new build, low cost hull.
After all, their 16″ main battery is the only capability that can’t be done by existing ships and they don’t have to fit 3 turrets to one ship, they could just fit 1 or 2 to a new hull, saving on manpower and increasing availability.
I always liked the sound of the Japanese multi role ADV variant, I think if it had been fitted with the FA2 Sea Harriers Blue Vixen radar and armed with ASRAAMs, AMRAAMs, ALARMs and Sea Eagle missiles it would have been a very capable asset.
Anyone know whats different about the enhanced F-2 Super Kai concept from the original. Is it cheaper?

Um, hey…guys? Come on back over here.
The thread topic is the USS Liberty. I read two opinions, and then we took off after lost Israeli subs, alleged trigger-happy soldiers, and the contents of Kofi Annan’s safe.
Does anyone else have any opinions to offer regarding the subject at hand?
Meat, sorry for going of topic.
Lots of info on the USS Liberty here http://www.ussliberty.org/
I can’t think why Israel would deliberately attack their closest ally, maybe they convinced themselves it was a Egytian ship disguised as a US ship, this type of thing happened in WW2 with dreadful results on more than one occasion.
Again, it was a nasty incident that causes alot of bad feelings, probably best to leave it alone.
Fantastic pics 🙂
It think the soviet navy took responsiblity for the Dakar.
Actually from what I just read here http://www.dolphin.org.il/dakar/search/ it does sound like a tragic accident.
Sorry for the conspiracy theory crap.
Iceland is a little less isolated than New Zealand (still not quite the center of the world), but doesn’t have any fighters either.
Thats true, but they only go to war over fishing rights 😉
Sens, Dakar was a ”T” class sub.
More info on the Dakar http://www.dolphin.org.il/
It does seem strange that a politically neutral country like Switzerland or Sweden will have a more powerful airforce than a country which is usually ready and willing to help its allies.
The US goverment showed its real anger about that, when it delayed for six month the delivery of the much needed A-4s to overcome war-losses.
The Liberty was a nasty incident which I hope was a mistake, but the above quote made me think about the disappearance of the Israeli submarine INS Dakar (Z-77) on 25 January, 1968 with the loss of all 69 crew. http://www.lostsubs.com/Dakar.htm
I hope this is just a cruel coincidence.
The old escort carriers are rather more analagous to the current crop of CVH vessels than to the mini-carrier concepts carrying only a handful of aircraft.
Daniel
I’d still call them mini carriers, their impressive airgroups are due to the fact that WW2 carrier aircraft were designed to be alot more compact. Its a shame todays carrier aircraft are not designed in the same way. http://www.escortcarriers.com/plaques.html
Here are some submarine designs for special forces use.

USS Macon could carry 5 fighters in her hanger. She and her sister Akron used skyhooks and were given a recce role………
