As long as it is better than the aircraft it is replacing (Tornado ADV and Jaguar) I don’t care any more, I LIKE IT!
Also, I think the outboard pylons are rated for at least 1,000 pounds each as is the centerline.
Anyone got any other good AV-8B photos?
This GR7 appears to be carrying 1000lb bombs on the outboard pylons.
Other bombed up Harriers are also at this site (too big to post).

Lots of excellent USMC Harrier pictures here

Here’s a selection
I think fitting Litening pods to AV-8Bs was a ‘War on Terror’ modification, so fitting it to the inboard pylon was the probably the easiest and quickest way to do it.
Also the issue of range and payload, especially bring back weight, was important when operating from Assault Carriers in the tropical temperatures of the Indian Ocean and Gulf. So Harriers would launch missions over Afghanistan and Iraq with one Harrier designating and carrying 1xLGB while its wingmen would carry 2xLGBs.
I think they where one of the RAF’s last minute combat modifications for the first Gulf war (Operation Granby?) which also included better defence suite and uprated combat settings for the engines.

Sorry for off. Any news about recent crash of F-22 in December? Or inspite of the speculations in media it was not the F-22 itself?

12/21/2004 – NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (ACCNS) – An Air Force F/A-22 crashed on takeoff here at approximately 3:45 p.m. Monday.
laser-guided JDAM?
You mean a weapon like EGBU-27? If that’s the case then those are already in service.
Laser-Guided JDAM To Begin Flight-Tests Before Year’s End

Another possible guidance system for JDAM is the Direct Attack Munitions Affordable Seeker (DAMASK) which uses Imaging IR and target recognition software.

Who, me?!
If you can hold your breath for a couple of months and throw warheads several thousand miles you’ve got the job:)
The only difference I can think of is the F-117 laser designator and FLIR systems, they still look more suited for precision bombing than what the F/A-22 has normally. I don’t know what the accuracy difference between laser and INS/GPS guidance is for a 2000lb munition and I’d imagine the true difference is classified and totally different to what the media and company ads say but it must be enough to keep a whole type still in active duty. Cheers syers!
I think the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) could find a place on the F/A-22 if laser guidance was needed.
Depends on if you’ve seen this 😀
Very funny, thanks for sharing.
British WE177A nuclear bomb is no longer in service, Trident is our only delivery system now.
The F/A-22 already has a pretty good secondary air-ground capability with JDAM type weapons, I think it could take on most F-117 jobs as it is.

Sorry, I thought a class A incident was a crash or damaged beyond repair accident.
Don’t know anything about the B-2 incident, maybe you got mixed up with the F-22 which crashed recently.
I wonder if the designers who came up with the FB-22 also worked on the F-16XL program?
