Great stuff, love the Mirage 2000D

Royal Australian Navy survey vessels.
I think they operated catarmaran mine warfare ships too.
Told a Russian friend of mine your idea and his first reaction was “Didn’t we lose enough men in Europe to make it easier for the west… now you want some more of our guys to die in the east to make the Pacific easier too? How much Russian blood would you have liked to have seen spilt?”
I hope your Russian friend realizes how much the allies did for his country during WW2.
Stalin never opened up a second front to stop the fall of Western Europe and he never sent fighters and tanks to Great Britain when we faced invasion.
The USSR did not make it “easier” they helped make it possible to win in Europe, as did the North African campaign, the battle of the Atlantic, the strategic bombing of Germany, and the defeat of Italy to name a few.
Hitler and Stalin should be blamed for Russian loses.
I don’t think it would have been a good idea for either party.
Any unnecessary fighting between the USSR and Japan would only benefit their respective main threats, Germany and the USA.
Indian, mate I can’t remember who it was, I think it was the russians, but i know someone made a cruise missile that had switch blade wings mounted on top of the missile, and they flicked around after being shot out.
Sounds like the Chance Vought BGM-110 which lost the USN competition which produced the Tomahawk.

Richard Beedall’s excellent Navy Matters website has all you need on CVF.

A full ski jump bow might look good but by having a offset ski jump ramp you gain a lot of deck space for aircraft handling and parking.
Thanks Wanshan, interesting pics!
Looks like it carries Swedish style assault boats.
Anyone read ARC LIGHT by Eric L. Harry?
Excellent novel about WW3, contained in the pages is a map showing the results of a Russian nuclear attack on the USA here are a few examples
Cheyenne Mtn (NORAD HQ) attacked by 8 warheads surface burst
288,000 killed, 25,000 wounded, 188,000 casualities from 60 day radiation fallout.
New London naval base (Trident subs) 10 warheads air burst
22,000 killed, 79,000 wounded.
Grand Forks airforce base (Minutemen ICBM/B-1) 221 surface, 13 air burst
25,000 killed, 48,000 wounded, 313,000 60 day radiation.
Basically its a long list with a lot of targets, lots and lots of warheads and frightening numbers of casualities.
[QUOTE=bring_it_on]i dont get yur point..but if u are trying to suggest that the f-35A should be scrapped and the f-35C be adopted and reconfigured instead then the result would most likely be the f-35A since there is a considerably high percentage of commonality between the varients with the CV having better low speed handeling and added weight
Good point, what I’m trying to say is that any talk of cancelling STOVL JSF would mean loosing an entire capability which cannot really be replaced by any other platform.
As you say CTOL JSF is the baseline for both STOVL and CV variants, but I’m suggesting that the buy of STOVL and CV should be increased to reduce the unit cost.
In my opinion the program can only be called a success if all 3 variants are put into service.
that will practically take away the economy of the entire program due the huge AF demand..why cancel the least technical risk and possible the cheapest varient?
I know that, but USAF is considering STOVL JSF and you have suggested reducing their CTOL buy and beefing up the F-22 fleet. So why not develop a CV light JSF with wing fold etc omitted for land based operation.
Always lots of talk about cancelling the STOVL JSF to save money.
Wouldn’t it be better to cancel the CTOL airforce JSF?, I know it’s the cheapest, but plenty of countries operate carrier capable FA-18s from land bases.

Good points all round, politicians need to realise that the defence budget is a insurance policy and you either get full coverage or gamble with lives. The only saving that can be made is a no claims bonus.

The RN knows what its job is, but it keeps getting less and less money and resources to do it with. The only vast empire in the UK is the civil service and as for England becoming a republic the only people who want that are the ones who want more politicians and civil servants.
