I would love to see MAAM’s P61 fly again.
I don’t think there are any other Black Widows flying.
There haven’t been since the last one crashed 40 years ago or was it in the early seventies, it was a fire bomber.

The news media going completely ballistic over a nominal aviation operation. This happened last week when an Airbus went into LAX with a stuck front landing gear. We all knew there was virtually no chance of this ending in a spectacular disaster but the news media just went crazy. Of course the gear never collapsed, the tire only burned up, and the airplane landed safely.

There was a great character in John Tegler’s “Gentleman You Have a Race” who called himself a “professional race pilot”. All tongue in cheek of course, I think he was killed in that Cape May crash.
John
ooops I misunder stood something.

Hi All
Vildebeest is right about the traffic with only one enterance to the airfield the traffic can tend to back up a bit, never have a problem with traffic myself as we are always there well before the public and dont leave till after you lot have all gone home.

I’ve developed another plan that also works…..Actually at Elvington five years ago we left the airport and parked on the road during the Red Arrows (the last act) and watched them there. Then as soon as they are done, leave and there’s little traffic as you are already off the airport. Here in the states, I just head to my car during the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, watch them from the parking lot, then it’s clear sailing as most people are still on the base, not in their cars.

I’ve been away from Europe for a few months and having spent most of my school German lessons watching Warton’s best flying past (and therefore being unable to make sense of the website) I’ve missed this piece of bad news…….what happen to the 109?
Ground looped badly and crashed while landing, a week or two ago. Pilot ok but the airplane is very heavily damaged, the engine was ripped right out of the airplane. Search this forum back a couple of pages and you will find the thread with pics and the report.

That’s gonna be cool!!! Can’t wait to see it!

After Red 7’s demise, is some of our valuable warbirds becomming too few to fly at airshows? Let’s not forget that with the tragic lost of the Firefly, we also lost CAF CASA/HEINKEL HE-111, and while I do wan’t all flying warbirds to perform in front of the public, I think that some of our warbirds are too rare and precious to be flown on a regular basis. Any lost of an warbird especailly when crewmembers are injured or killed deeply saddens me, and would also sadden the warbird community if we lost one of these precious commodities. I just want your opinion on this matter. 🙁
That’s just the recent history. Looking back, the CAF also lost the ultra rare B-26 Marauder and A-20 Havoc. Wisely the Lone Star Museum has never flown their A-20 and Kermit Weeks has ceased flying his Marauder. When it’s getting down to just a few examples amounting to the fingers on one hand (specifically the Marauder) it’s time to not fly them.

There can be few types in the preservation movement with a more troubled history than the Me/Bf 109 – HA 1112.
I think the first UK flyer (after BoB film) was Robs Lamplough’s G-BJZZ (later G-HUNN) and that ground-looped at Biggin in ’82. More recently, did not a Buchon depart the runway at Lydd, during the filming of ‘Pearl Harbor’?
Yup, Planes of Fame’s of Chino.

Except Black 6 😉
Yeah that was a pilot’s brain ground loop. Cooling doors? what are those for….oh ****!!!
John
Telling an announcer, (in the middle of his description of an aerobatic act) that the pilot’s brother was flying the airplane…(when of course the announcer was correct). That one still makes me cringe, my brain was definitely not working right that day.
John
I wonder when the first 262 rolls out with correct markings….I was looking at the Planes of Fame’s new Storch last weekend and even that has the full markings…We must end this PC nonsense and revisionist cleaning up of WWII history. Not a Nazi here, but you get the point.
John
Was there also an issue with Bullock’s license being expired?
John
It’s too bad that ten years and a week or so later on 29 Sept, 1990 Doug Lacey did not heed the lessons learned from the Bullock crash when he was performing outside the envelope maneuvers in his PV-2D Harpoon in Northern California, taking…ironically 7 people as well. What a waste of lives. (It wasnt during an air display but at a seaplane gathering Lacey was not invited to)
John
I saw this in a theater in 78…..that was great stuff when I was a kid…Must try to get it on DVD…maybe saw it once since then but not in a long time.
