I had probably read Fuddy Duddy was coming but forgot about it. So it was a pleasant surprise to see it in Torrance a week ago….I only found out because it was on the newspaper on my friend’s table who lived nearby. Hadn’t seen it since 1989.

I’m sure the crew was just wiped out with fatigue….it’s pretty obvious in the video. Being tired has recently been proven as being the same as being under the influence of alcohol. Mistakes start to happen. It’s a bloody shame.

Hmmm….thanks….I have cockpit shots but they are in storage. I think it’s been 13 years this week since I saw the airplane when it left Chino. I watched them build it there, shot the first engine runs and flight…great memories from a great time. I even met a pilot who flew F-5’s who was stationed at the same base this actual airframe was at…He may have flown the airplane but his logbook wasn’t clear on serial numbers.

Interesting about the Merlins. I remember reading in Ray Wagner’s “Mustang Designer” that Edgar Schmued was so disappointed with having Allisons on the F-82 that he never bought another GM product again!

Kermit’s Mosquito hasn’t flown since it was placed at the EAA museum in Oshkosh in 1991 or so. It now needs work so I doubt it will be flying anytime soon either.

Maybe I’m in the minority but “White Lightnin” as anything but, just breaks my heart. The idea of it as an advertisement really rubs me the wrong way.
And yes, it’s thier money and they are getting it back in the air so I should be thankful, but it still bugs me.

I agree, it makes me sick.

I just happened to be looking up at the tv at the gym the other day and saw that sequence….funny to read about it here. It was a Ryan PT-22.

The thing I hated about inkjet printers is that the ink evaporated when I wasn’t even using them. At least now with my laser printer that doesn’t happen..I don’t think they make photo printers with ink that doesn’t evaporate.

Sorry, I can’t square this off with these things being toys. They were serious devices for use in times of conflict and the word “toy” does them and their wartime pilots no honour or justice.
It is just the way I am feeling right now. Sorry if I’ve disjointed anyone’s nose.
That is really appropo. The next time someone calls warbirds toys I will remember this.
John
Oh man this is such great news…..I ‘ve missed that Bearcat so much…I was hanging around Chino alot when it was first flying….The accident was 1 August, 1993.
John
Yes POF’s still flys as it did at the show in May at Chino.
John
Firefly???
Sorry for forgetting that is right I think….:(
John
Sheesh!!! Two 1820s in one day as the B-17 Sentimental Journey also had an engine failure at Nellis prior to the show but landed safely.

Flying Legends 2003
I think most people will know why

And that wouldn’t be me….I can’t remember any crashes that year so why was it so bad?
John
Elvington any year. Always rains, always over priced and always the same displays. Gave it a miss this year and went to Sherburn wich was free. I saw most of the aircraft pass over brieghton that evening any way.
I disagree. First British Airdisplay ever for me was August 2000 and it was totally brilliant (and no rain the day I went).
