No Bassets are in museums AFAIK, but there’s one in open storage at Biggin Hill. A few of them went across the pond after they ended their military life.
Do they still have the Bucc stuck head-first in to a corner too?
The Phantom at Hixon shows that dealers do not also aid preservation, lying with it’s wings hacked off it didn’t understandably make the £20k reserve at the auction, now it is reduced to a cockpit
That’s disappointing to hear, particularly as the aircraft had a bright future once plans were under way to bring it to Hixon as a gate guard. Hopefully no more British Phantoms go the same way.
Is there anything to suggest that XT597 has been neglected and left to rot though? Or could it just be that they’re working on other projects? I can’t imagine Everett Aero have a massive workforce.
People who comment about the very high price asked for XT597, but what is it ? please enlighten us.
A thread on PPRuNe quotes that they’re asking in the region of £75k..!
Believe one of them had engine runs a year or so ago.
The plan was to build on this and get the aircraft restored to taxiable condition. However it’s all gone quiet over the last few months.
I believe it’s scheduled for around 14:45 on Thursday.
Given they were heading West would Yeovilton not be a more likely destination? Presumably static exhibits for VLAD this Saturday.
Did the Seafire take part in the flypast today? Haven’t seen any images or mentions of it participating.
While I’d love to see a Fighter Meet at North Weald, sadly too young to remember any of the shows, I’d just love to see more events such as the Norwegian Wings over North Weald becoming more regular. The relaxed atmosphere of the airfield makes them extremely enjoyable events.
I’m gutted to hear that, although it’s not totally unexpected.
Happy to say that I enjoyed a huge number of her displays in the UK in the 14 or so years I’ve been airshow-ing.
Is there a plan for the Shackleton? Every time I see it more parts have been removed from her!
A few additions/restorations/changes I can think of off the top of my head..
BCWM acquired the Phantom XV497 and Harrier ZD667 just over a year ago, with the nose of Phantom XV460 earlier this year.
The Kestrel and EAP went on display at RAFM Cosford.
VC-10 to Dunsfold to go to Brooklands
VC-10 to Bruntingthorpe
Classic Air Force have acquired a BAC 1-11, Harrier Gr3 and VC-10
Bournemouth acquired the nose of BAC 1-11 ZE432
Coventry got a Tornado Gr1 (or Gr4?)
Wattisham acquired a Lynx AH7
It was Dave Piper flying his first Hunter solo in XL577.
When they retired the last 10 or so airframes from JG71 last July, only one was to be kept at Wittmund (37+01) and another was going somewhere else, the rest flew to Jever for scrapping, as I believe the pair that were at Manching did too.
BK1
I spoke to one of the Luftwaffe guys after the Wittmund event and he seemed to suggest that the aircraft went to Jever for demilitarisation. Following that the aircraft would be offered for sale, with those that failed to sell then being scrapped.
Has the redevelopment started recently? Demobbed still lists the airframes, including XX257, at the yard although the last update on that location was September 2013!
