Not been on the forum for quite some time but my first port of call had to be this thread, not a massive Meteor fan just generally interested in the hard work you put in to restore a complex piece of kit back to working ordered! 788 is looking fantastic and I cant wait for more updates moving into 2018. On a side note it must of been a good feeling to get the speed brakes working after so many years and with the words of “experts” ringing in your ears!! :applause:
Keep up the excellent work.
Regards Neil.
Taken from the BBMF Facebook site, a very thirsty Avro Lancaster…. 🙂

RIP to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice 72 years ago today….
My Grandfather flew twice on D-Day, first to St Pierre Du Pont in the early hours of the morning and then later that evening to a target in Argentan, ended up getting hit by AAA and had to make a emergency landing at RAF Woodbridge on return. Luckily he survived the war and is still with us at 93!
Keep up the great work chaps! One of my favorite threads on the forum this is and I always look forward to the latest installment.
Not historic like but on the way to Alicante airport this morning saw a V-22 Osprey coming into land there. Came home on a 757-200…..
Piaggio PFW 149 D-EARY passing west to east over Bamford in Rochdale. Didn’t recognize the aircraft so whipped my phone out and got on Flight Radar app which supplied the details! 😀
Lovely work, hopefully he makes a good recovery to be able to enjoy his project for many years to come….
I’d hazard a guess John Romain has a fair few types in his logbook.
One of the local ATC Squadrons at Royton near Oldham has a Meteor NF14 as a gate guardian, I used to see it on the occasions that we had to venture up there from Heywood Sqn for training and stuff.
Shame YAM isn’t a bit closer to my town of Rochdale would be an interesting experience to lend a pair of hands in your quest to restore WS788….
Mentioned on another thread that my Grandfather’s skipper made sure that all the crew got a crash course in flying the Lancaster in case he became incapacitated, it would at least give the crew hope of getting back to somewhere safe!!
As long as it survives as some form of memorial to Dennis Copping that’s the main thing, restored or not.
Was he not something to do with a Lancaster recovery in France? Sure there is a thread on it here somewhere….
Quick search and I found it….
Slave cylinder going on my Vauxhall Vivaro clutch, looking like about £700 to repair it…. 😡

Thanks for that Paul, will get in touch with them. Don’t think my Grandfather would want to loan it more likely gift it somewhere, will speak to him in the next couple of days and see what he thinks. Maybe somewhere like the Newark Air Museum would be a good place as he served there as a gunnery instructor when it was RAF Winthorpe after completing his tour with 467 Sqn.
