Unfortunately it looks like the recovery of Flight Sergeant Williams is going to be a near enough impossible task due to locating the precise crash site and the physical work involved with excavating the site with it being so close to the river and the potential discovery of hazardous building material and waste which would need disposing of. I know money shouldn’t come into the equation when it comes to recovering our fallen hero’s but surely the money could be better (didn’t want to say better, but couldn’t think of something more suitable.) spent in recovering the remains of service people that are more accessible.
Hope it’s dead!! 😮
No doubt they will be buried under the main runway just out of reach at Izmir International Airport…….
Wow, what a fantastic sight! Didn’t expect her to be flying so quick! Hope I get to see her flying in the “flesh” during next year, cant recall ever seeing any of her previous incarnations.
Fantastic looking restoration! When is the “first” flight planned?
I believe an original aircraft was destroyed in Berlin during the war by allied bombing.
Just checked and it was one of Von Richthofen’s aircraft that he scored 3 kills in and an aircraft constructed out of original parts in 1932 that were both destroyed.
Do the werk numbers apply to the whole aircraft or different components? It’s just on the picture of the hydraulic pump the werk number is different to what is stated above, on the pump it looks like 215920079 and above is 130126. It might just be me being a thicko!!
Just a quick heads up for those who missed the program the other night it’s on 4 7 (sky channel 140) at 8 30 tonight…..
My Grandfather was on the raid and has said before that he saw an aircraft going down on fire which he believed was the master bomber, there is nothing noted in his logbook about it but he said he filed a report when they got back to Waddington. At the time he obviously wouldn’t of known who was flying the aircraft. Here’s the page from his logbook.

Very nice work on the tail plane, cant wait to see your teams work on the fuselage in future up dates! Must be hugely satisfying to see bits of twisted wreckage turn back into an aircraft!
Thanks for the answers chaps, at coming up to 32 the chances of seeing Just Jane flying could be quiet strong! :eagerness: Reading the winter servicing reports I would of thought they cant be to far off having an airworthy Lancaster, you never know in 5/6 years time we might be all drooling over the possibility of having a Lancaster 3 ship flying over Great Britain……. 😎
What’s the latest on getting Just Jane to an airworthy condition? Is there a definitive target date for return to flight or is it a case of just sometime in the next few years?
Attachment bolts for this cover to be in place during compass swing?
My Grandad’s skipper gave all the crew some basic instruction on how to handle the aircraft, he said he flew the aircraft on a couple of occasions while on training flights.
Ahem…..
