I really hope it is the Rooivalk. it is a big, really tough beast that the South African Airforce are really happy with. It was really popular in the British competition but could not compete with the American political muscle behind the Apache. The US refused to allow Hellfire to be integrated with the Rooivalk thus stalling it’s chances. It had more compatability with the UK helo fleet than the others.

That said, I hope the Rooivalk does it as it is too good to just languish. If a large Turkish order is made, there will probably be more orders for the South African Airforce as has been previously hinted at..

Can someone provide any details on that South African MAWS fitted on the Sukhoi?

SOC..c’mon man.You know full well that although an allround nasty guy, Saddam was hated by Islamic fundamentalists. Hell , there were liquor stores in Baghdad during his tenure as well as a SYNAGOGUE and small Jewish community of all things…do some Googling. The point is, Saddam was a SECULAR dictator and regarded fundamentalism as a threat. Sure, he would use them when convenient, but sheeesh!! All I know is that it was originally about WMD , then terrorism, then freedom!!!

JJshep.. I would imagine that they would probably use their MRBM that they are working on…It’s too expensive to loft a conventional warhead over more than 2000km using so large a missile. I also assume the CEP of such missiles would preclude using conventional warheads.I would therefore use some form of NBC payload.
