It’ll be between Ireland and England then this year.

Scotland are carrying on with losing games that they could be winning…one suspects that they’ll start enjoying a change of fortune soon, especially with a good coach such as Cotter now at the helm…

Except that Rafale A was a Tech demonstrator, there isn’t any common piece between Rafale A and First Rafale M F1 (which was itself a stop gap standard now undergoing retrofit).

Are you saying the Su-30MKI is identical to the original Su-27?

Let’s all play by the same rules, shall we?

There is no “except”.

The facts are that the design origin of the Rafale is very firmly in the 1980’s. The Rafale A was not an unrelated aircraft.
The C and M that flew in 1991 must have been completely redesigned from January 1st, 1990, huh?

All of this is very clear and obvious.

I’m also interested in his other statements too, but I rather suspect they were opinion presented as facts too…

Funny how France and Russia were getting along and the Rafale deal started. But as soon as France and Russia no longer were getting along the Rafale deal became a mess. People are very naive to think Putin has nothing to do with manipulating HAL officials when his advisors have so much access to their personnel. Don’t forget that Putin actually paid separatists in the Ukraine to become aggressive and that it was his ally that began the shooting during their revolution yet Russia went into Crimea to save innocent separatists. India is Russia’s cabana boy and it’s showing. Funny, India should be calling the shots in their relationship, but it’s not mature enough to see through its mental fog.

The MKI is not a good short or long term investment for India in 2015. Are they really going to buy more fighters from the 80’s??

Interesting statements…

How much did he pay them?

The Rafale (A) first flew in the 1980’s too, btw.
1986, to be precise.

It’s origin stretches back to the 70’s.

It was because of the interminable politicking, industry to-and-fro, and the cessation of the cold war tensions that lead to it being available later.

In that definition, it too, is a “fighter of the 80’s.”

Thanks Paralay.

I wasn’t aware anything else was built apart from the 1.44 technology demonstrator, and the ejection seat tester that was revealed first.

In 1994 were built two of the rear fuselage MiG 1.42

Paralay, are you saying two MiG 1.42 rear fuselages were actually built in 1994?

Are there any pictures of these?
How did they differ from the rear fuselage of the 1.44 technology demonstrator?

Having more stages wouldn’t stop the J-85 from being cheaper and simpler to operate – specific fuel consumption, time-between-overhaul and overall operating life would be the key indicators.

Of course, but that is not what was said.

The J85 of the F-5 is far simpler.

The J-85 is not “far simpler”.

And the specific fuel consumption of the R-13, R-25 and the J-85 in dry thrust is pretty much the same, with the R-13 and R-25 actually being marginally better.

Neither R13 or R25 is much simpler than R33. It’s one engine versus two at the same level of complexity. The J85 of the F-5 is far simpler.

The F-5 airframe is also much simpler than the MiG-21.

Doesn’t the J-85 have more stages than either the R-13 or R-25?
That alone means it is far from being “far simpler”.

Impressive.

When you look at the raw data of Super Frelon and compare it with some of the modern, more recent large choppers such as the AW-101 and Mi-38, one realises that there wasn’t a massive quantum leap in performance, in many instances.
When one looks at how the Puma was continuously developed and redeveloped into ever more capable and modern versions, I always wondered why at least some of the same improvements or incremental upgrades weren’t applied to the Super Frelon.
Just as the development path of the Puma/SuperPuma/Cougar/Super Cougar remain some of the most capable helicopters available right now, I always thought that the comparitive lack of development on the Super Frelon was perhaps a missed opportunity.

It looks like China pretty much agreed with that assessment.

The reason for the renewed interest was the Rooivalks performance during its first deployment and combat, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Previously, Hinds had been used by the UN, but the Rooivalk came in and deployed on March 1st of this year, and basically smashed the rebels with pinpoint accuracy, leading to the UN head of MONUSCO, Martin Kobler, giving very high praise about the immediate results.

What about a version of the Rooivalk with Millimetre Wave radar guided missiles? since MMW radar seems to be all the rage these days, and it would help the export potential of the Rooivalk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mokopa

After the US refusing to release the Hellfire for integration on the Rooivalk during the British attack helicopter competition, Mokopa was developed.
It comes in MMW format too.

Rooivalks potential for sales are/were not performance based.
They are political.

When in competition with the Tiger, a European engine manufacturer suddenly started making statements about not supporting it’s engines if Rooivalk won.
Add the US missile refusal above, and various behind-the-scenes shenanigans in other competitions.

You can have the best platform in the world, but it counts for nothing when related industries are reigned in for political reasons and used as bidding tool weapons. This applies to any platform.
