On the left is Sqn Ldr J Danforth Browne and in the middle is Colonel Walker M ‘Bud’ Mahurin if my memory serves me right.

I don’t think so, neal h, I agree with Eric Mc that regardless of the purpose and function, the looks are what count, and only those, so disregard all else.
Isn’t that what you meant, Franck66?
Papa Lima
Thats exactly what I meant too. Maybe I read Eric Mc’s post wrongly but what I thought was being said was aircraft like the B-36, Extra and Neptune were being chosen for what they were capable of rather than looks.
The list of aircraft in my first post is purely based on looks and nothing else.
I apologise If I’ve caused confusion or have got confused myself.

Beautiful means looks only. With that in mind, impressive aircraft like the B-36, extreme aircraft like the Extra and successful aircraft like the Neptune should really fall out of the equation.
Isn’t that a bit like saying the Spitfire was built for fighting so it can’t be a good looking aeroplane.
The Extra is built for aerobatics but it is still a good looking aeroplane, to me anyway.

ARRRGGHHH, I can’t narrow it down to one type, there are too many to choose from.
Tiger Moth & DH60
Chipmunk
Hunter( single seat)
Pitts
Extra 300
P-51D
Gladiator
Piper Cub
and on and on and on….
But at the moment I’ll go for this. Spitfire V

Personally since they have stopped bringing in decent warbirds then the shine has gone off it for me. There was nothing better than seeing OFMC’s and TFC warbirds power round the bend. Having been to OW over 50 times i feel the best days are behind it. Take for example the old military pageants of the 90’s, numerous visitors, awesome displays.
Didn’t Shuttleworth build up huge debts in the 90’s though. At least now they’re in a better position financially.
I like to see the odd visiting warbird at OW ( can we have a mustang please) but I’m with MOTF, OW is the best venue in my opinion, along with Shorham which is another good show.
I am a fan of DX too, although not as much as I used to be, and thats where to go to see the powerful warbirds and OW for the Barnstorming style displays and for the gentler side of vintage aviation. The ballon bursting, limbo and flour bombing are all good fun and the crowd really enjoy it.
We are lucky to have these two venues and its good that each offers a different style.

Also booked for OW on June 6th, F-86 & T-33, but not yet confirmed.

Don’t know which is my fave of all time, Mark Hanna at Old Warden in MH434 is probably one.
Out of the photos I’ve taken myself this is probably one of them.

One more
I never saw the Breitlings display in 99 apart from on TV/Video although I did see Ray and Mark fly dogfight sequences in the P-40 and Buchon.
As you say chris, ray flew the P-40 and Mark the Buchon.
Sadly missed. 🙁
