British Canuck
In response to your query about open cockpit days at Cosford, they sadly no longer have them. On my last visit there earlier this year I asked a museum volunteer about this. His reply was simply
“they don’t have them at Hendon so we can’t have them here. What Hendon says goes”.
I don’t know why this is, maybe some H & S reason perhaps.
The last one I went to was a few years ago. The cockpits that were open were- Vulcan, Belfast and Dakota. The Vulcan and Belfast Cockpits were in good condition, the Belfast cockpit is so high up. The cockpit on the Dakota is in great condition, a benefit of being indoors.
When you get chance to visit British Canuck, you’ll have an enjoyable day.
Neal;)
I read somewhere( can’t remember where) that within the next few years a new building is to be erected at Cosford to house some of the outdoor exhibits.
I grew up very close to Cosford. As a kid I remember the Belfast flying into Cosford. Its a fantastic aircraft.

Hey Glenn
How about bringing your Cub over to Leicester for the taildragger fly-in on 7th & 8th June.
In fact, anyone who has an aircraft, come on over for an afternoon.
Neal;)
Hi EwenT
I was at Turweston and was amazed by the small size of that Baby Great Lakes too. I adidn’t arrive until about 1245 so most aircraft had already arrived by the time I got there. Good day though.
Just need extra staff in the cafe to reduce that queue though.
Good pics.
Neal;)
I had a flight in a Jodel D18 yesterday and the visibility is excellent, even the view downward, and as this aircraft flies with a slight nose down attitude the forward view is not obstructed by the engine cowling. on the downside the cockpit is a little cramped but you soon get over that.

Hi Steve
Lucky git indeed. I have bored everyone I’ve met today about it and I’m still grinning like a cheshire cat now. Can’t wait to do it again. If you ever get the chance to take a flight in a Jodel then take it cause its well worth it, the visibility is excellent.

Had two flights with Denny today. The first in a Jodel D18, a great little aeroplane with fantastic visibilty. Mr Beebee, you may be thinking to yourself how I have been less than polite about the look of Jodels but I’m now converted.
The second flight today was in his Extra 300. 😮 A totally awesome experience and one which I hope to repeat. This was also the first time I have flown aerobatics and I loved every second of it.
😀

I do not have a PPL so I’ve not flown in a great variety of aircraft, mainly Cessna 152/ 172 and a Jet Ranger many years ago so the most exotic flight is in the Dragon Rapide at DX.
However, this year I’m commentating for Denny Dobson so over the summer I’ll be getting flights in his Extra 300, Christen Eagle as well as a Yak 52 and Yak 18T.
A dream that I have had for a while is to fly over the countryside on a warm summer evening in a Tiger Moth. Absolute heaven.
🙂

RE: Queen mother funeral flypast
You were right Jay, you did see stripes.
Spitfire XIX PM631 has been repainted with Invasion stripes and has had its seac roundels replaced with regular type. During winter it had its camera ports restored and the supercharger for the pressurised cockpit refitted.
see picture on p.76 of this months Aircraft Illustrated.

RE: airshow moment? (So far!)
My favourite airshow moments as a child was seeing the vulcan at RAF cosford each year, but my favourite moment ever,as a spitfire and hurricane fanatic has to be the flypast from behind the crowd at the duxford battle of britain show sept 2000. A truly stiring sight and sound. Also Lee Proudfoot and Ed Shipley’s display in two P.51d’s at the same show.:D
RE: What do we want in 2002
The Shuttleworth Collection are holding a naval air show on june 2nd, I would love to see a formation Sea hurricane, TFC corsair and wildcat and RNHF sea fury. Also looking forward to seeing Paul Morgans corsair which is to be operated on behalf of the Morgan family by ARCO at duxford in 2002.
Neal 😀
RE: Breitling Fighters
TFC have not sold the P-47 to ofmc but it was at Le Bourget with the BF although I’m not sure if it flew in the formation
