Harrier XV752 at Bletchley Park is now back on it’s wheels thanks to the generous help of R.A.F Cottesmore, VacuLug of Grantham and JARTU.
Harrier XV752 at Bletchely Park is now back on a new set of tyres thanks to the help of R.A.F Cottesmore, VacuLug of Grantham and JARTU.
The Hunter cickpit is usually wrapped up for the Winter to preserve the paint scheme from the elements. However, it’s been on open display outside of the 2366 Sqn ATC HQ for most of this summer.
The Harrier will be repainted in the existing 3 Sqn colour scheme.
The Hunter cockpit you refer to belongs to Hunter F6 XF522. This is painted in 92 Sqn Blue Diamonds colour scheme as worn by this cockpit when it was a complete aircraft during 1961-63 and part of what was then the official RAF dispalay team. See photo.
Both the Harrier and the Hunter cockpit belong to 2366 (Bletchley Park) Squadron ATC.
Part of a planned rectification of that problem. The aircrfat was recovered by JARTU earlier this week. Work will now progress to have the new aircraft tyres hard filled and replaced and which time the aircraft will go back onto it’s under carriage. In the interim the plan is to lay a concrete hardstanding for the jet to ensure that there is no subsidence in the furture. Once that has been laid and allowed to settle the Harrier will be towed back into postion. There is also a plan to repaint the aircraft.
The Staff and cadets from 2366 (Bletchely Park) Squadron who attended had a great day. The CO was especially appreciative of the guys who reconfigured the instument panel in XF522. There’s no doubt 2366 will be back next year.
Yes cadets and pilots flying in the grob tutor wear parachutes. Cadets are also given a full safety brief before flying.
Transport problems on 13th mean that Hunter F6 XF522 will only be making an appearance on Sunday 14th.
Stacey24b. Many Thanks. If you have tyres that would fit our GR3 XV752 ex 233 OCU, 1 Sqn & 3 Sqn that would be supurb and greatly appreciated. This aircraft is currently at Bletchley park outside the 2366 (Bletchley Park) Sqn ATC HQ.
The Sqn CO is arranging for crash and bash to come and help with a tyre / wheel change as long as we can source the parts.
Many Thanks for the leads eveyone.
Stacey24b do you know if they still have the tyres they removed at Cottesmore?
freebird. We have followed up the Culdrose lead. The 5 or 6 GR3’s used by the school of flight deck operations were moved to the fire fighting school at Predannack Airfield when they were replaced by F/A 2’s & T8’s. However we understand the GR3’s have been moved from there but don’t know where yet. If any one has any idea about the whereabouts of these airframes could you let me know?
