It makes it stand out better? 🙂
Nice work Gavin, I do believe a mate of mine was the Herc Captain. I’ll refer him onto this page.
Wow. It sounds like you really like to complicate matters.
Here’s what I do – it’s very similar but a bit more friendly.
Look alongside your map track for good identifiable features, which are approximately 5 minutes apart. It’s better to find great features which are not common, and that stand out, and head for/past them, rather than find yet another bridge along a river… Then figure the ETA for these features. Write that time on the track.
Your closing angle calculation depends on whether you wish to get on track early (best advised most of the time) or whether you simply want to overfly your next turnpoint (from a different track). Also remember to add/subtract your original heading error that got you off course in the first place….
Sorry if my 1.5G wingovers were a bit hard on your G-tolerance mate :p
Even worse – we’re passing 180 degrees out !!
I was flying Janie, and expected to meet you. What happened? :p
Same rules apply then, even more so.
Because the reflections will ‘grow’ larger.
Wear stockings if you like, but remember they are a fire hazard 🙂
I don’t use a polarisor myself.
But, dark or Black clothes, both for you and any other crew on board, to minimise reflections. Black gloves too !!
Be aware when the sun is directly behind you, it will illuminate your cockpit.
Clean the windows 🙂
Hmmmm…. 2FTS. As in RAAF Pearce?
Yes, wash. I wash them once a month, weather they need it or not (along with me).
For various reasons I avoid silk knickers whilst flying. Scarves though are outwardly feminine, so you won’t see them on me ever. 🙂
I heard a similar rumour Janie, but nobody has confirmed it.
What I can say is if has been washed so much that it pills (fluffs up) then it’s effectiveness is reduced.
Yep, real heavy in roll. You need to hit the gym first 🙂
Just don’t expect Extra 300 aerobatic performance.
However an all round pleasant machine to fly (and fun to land).
Quite simply, who gives a damn about what other pilots (or even spectators) think or say, when you know you are wearing appropriate safety clothing.
When you are in a fire situation, or any accident for that matter, the wearing of proper nomex coveralls (with cotton undergarments) will enhance your likelihood of survival. Too many people have survived crashes, only to burn to death in the crash site. Nomex backed gloves are also a boon to helping you to vacate the wreckage. They are preferred to the all leather RAF type, because the leather will shrink tight onto your hand. The nomex version will flex.
Wear a helmet too. They are compulsory for bicycle riders in many countries.
From his recent Biography, he didn’t have much time on that model, he was rushing to get airborne to meet with a Mustang, and he probably did not have the full correct rudder trim applied.
