Just wanted to make sure I have understood this right.
We are talking about remaking a 1950s film based on a book by Paul Brickhill about a highly decorated man who went beyond the call of duty for his country and comrades. Whatever is thought of the personality of the man the fact is at this countries time of need he was there doing more than his bit and leading from the front. Now, for the sake of historical accuracy, when the film is remade it should portray his personal character, by all accounts, more realistically despite any distraction this may have from what this man did for this country.
Good job this will probably produce higher takings at the American box office or this wouldn’t be done.
But, hey, I am all for historical accuracy and the film should be remade to reflect what attitudes were at the time, right or wrong. Then when my children/grandchildren ask “Dad/granddad could you say/do that sort of thing back then?” I can explain just how things were back in the day, how they have changed and why. It is a fact based story and therefore educational, sanitising it out may stop important questions being asked and history learnt about how attitudes were back then.
If you’re referring to my post, too bloody right.:D
I wasn’t, but which post did you have in mind? #33 Agreed. :eagerness:

Hmm. I take it someone has said something you don’t agree with, again. 😀
Very very sad news, he and his family deserved better than this. Sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

Yes the Minister did answer that point and basically he was saying that this situation has been going on for some time long before any election date was announced as was the Select Committee and the PWC investigation. It is just a sequence of events.
Of course, the starting pistol was fired by Mrs Goag when she closed the airport early, she should have thought of the election then. Obviously she probably thought it would all be done and dusted quickly.
I had to stop and think which way the election would effect the case as there is no MP for the area at the moment who had been supportive so from there it could have gone either way. From what I could gather all prospective candidates have come on board, or at least jumped on the band wagon anyway, so it may be difficult for Labour if the Council do note vote for the CPO. I don’t know when the next Council elections are but there was talk of supporters standing for election.
Although the TV crew was there, I do not know which company, I did not see any reporters or press photographers.
On a lighter note there was plenty of support from passing motorists tooting their horns, obviously every body was in a good mood with the news and having a laugh

the Minister was relieved that there was a baby present as he has to kiss at least one on each day of the campaign

Charlie, At times it was a bit difficult to hear what was being said between the supporters and the Minister but the impression I got was that it was now up to TDC so still that hurdle to go and as you probably already know not all councillors are supportive even if they have said publicly they are!
On balance I think the election is going to help as it appears all candidates feel the need to support the CPO and hopefully the Labour candidate will put pressure on the councillors. Then again they could spin it out until after the election.

I was not able to see any untoward activity going on on the site. The aircraft on the northern boundary have gone so presumably dismantled.

Was on the way round the southern side when I came across the meeting so did not get down to where the 707 was. Could not see any aeroplanes from the terminal building.
The two helicopter companies appeared to still be operating.
The compound at the western end with fire engines and bowsers was MOD and I assume forms part of Defence Fire Training located up the road.
Just found this alleged comment made by deputy leader of TDC “…… and deputy leader of the council, Richard Nicholson was hardly an effusive supporter of potential Airport champion RiverOak saying, “we are not going to do business with people like this”.” And Messrs Musgrave and Cartner and Goag are!!!!!?

Fellow Forum Members,
However, I also wish to place on the record my complete opposition to the closure and removal of the thread which was announced this evening.

Sorry Andy I owe you an apology I had not seen the mods posted decision and somehow had missed the above part of your post. Sorry.
Regards Paul
Andy with all due respect the thread has not been suppressed and its almost certainly temporary breathing space is nothing about you at all. It is purely moderating the thread to stop it degenerating into unseemly personal bickering which is nothing to do with the subject of the thread. Whilst , of course, I cannot speak for the moderators I am sure the thread will be up an running again when the moderators have finished their deliberations.
Personally i feel that this is how, on these forums discussions should be conducted. I do not want it deteriorating to the sort of “quality” we see elsewhere.
My mistaken joke about reading the thread was just that and I am sure that researchers will soon have the opportunity to read all 6K posts, is it.
Again with all due respect quoting Voltaire is a little simplistic in the sense that if you went to speakers corner and started sprouting racial hatred the moderators would soon come along and cart you away.
I draw your attention to the posting rules of this forum and their purpose and specifically rules 5, 10 and 13 these are the only powers the moderators are exercising and they are certainly not suppressing anything. Possibly you did not see the most recent posts with several warnings from the mods to play nicely.
The mods are doing a good but difficult job, be patient and I am sure the thread will be back soon and you can make all the posts that you want.
The mods did ask that no debate was started regarding the thread suspension but I think that was actually on the thread so no doubt you missed that, and, of course, this is the wrong forum to be discussing this anyway so do not be surprised if this thread is either moved or even deleted.:D.:D:D
