10.8 metre is not small if it is going to be used on small to medium size carriers.
i havent seen more than 10 to 15 Rafales on flight deck. and without many aircraft on flight deck of carrier. it will decrease sortie rates.

You’re right, that’s because French Fleet Air Arm doesn’t have enough Rafale fighters, for the moment…

    Not so unusual, and understandable…

    Rafale M wingspan is 10.8 m : 3504 ft, no folding wings
Sea harrier FA2 wingspan is 7.6 m : 25.3 ft, no folding wings
AV8B Harrier II wingspan is 9.25 m: 30.4 ft, no folding wings
A4 Skyhawk wingspan is 8.38 m: 26.6 ft, no folding wings
    F18E Super Hornet wingspan is 13.62 m : 44.85 ft, folding wings
    F18C Hornet wingspan is 12.3 m : 40 ft, folding wings
Su 33 Flanker wingspan is 14.70 m :48.25 ft, folding wings
MiG 29K Fulcrum wingspan is 11.99 m :39.34 ft, folding wings

I give up… I write a long post to explain the difference between commissioning and “entry in active service”, and the next post continues to confuse the two!

Your explanation is the right one, I apologize to use the wrong term. In French, we don’t use the term “commission”, but “essais à la mer” or “sea trials”, then “entrée en service” when the ship is fitted with all sensors and weapons, and is OK to be used by the French Navy. For the moment, the Dixmude has no combat system. She has to sail to Toulon Naval Base to be fitted with.

About Nae Sao Paulo, the problem is that only 2 of 23 AF1 (A4K) Skyhawk seem to be able to fly. Most of Navy pilots didn’t have any carrier training for years, so it’s difficult to consider that this ship is actually serviceable. But you’re right, there is a plan to modernize the Skyhawks and some stoofs have been purchased and modernized for AEW and COD duties.

    regards

French Aircraft Carrier name is “Charles de Gaulle”.
French BPC Dixmude is due to commission in 2012.
MB NAe Sao Paulo’s deck didn’t see any aircraft since 2005.
Thai Navy has no more AV8S jet fighters for years, so Chakri Naruebet is just an helicopter carrier.

NAe Sao Paulo is now an old ship, hard to maintain. Her last flight exercises were in 2005. I’m not sure that Marinha do Brazil needs such carrier. May be HMS Ark Royal will be more useful as an helicopter carrier for this navy.

What about Armada de Chile? Didn’t they want to buy a big landing ship?

Last, Indian Navy is trying to keep the glorious old INS Viraat (ex-HMS Hermes) in commission, with expensive refits. May be a good solution awaiting INS Vikramaditya and the new INS Vikrant?

    1 Rafale lost during training,

2 Rafale lost during a heavy configuration trial flight,

    1 Rafale lost during a war mission…

Last Rafale was part of 10 aircraft sent to war while the total fleet was only of less than 20 machines… It’s a huge effort for the Marine risking his brand new fighters with minimal logistics available.

Whatever is said, Rafale , from the begining, is used intensively. They take part to many exercizes abroad, they go to war, all of this since 2002, and since 2007 with bombs to support troops in Afghanistan, no matter how large is the fleet.

First rafale lost is an AdA aircraft (French Air force-Armée de l’Air)
The pair of rafale lost (collision) and the last are Aéronavale’s aircrafts (French Fleet Air Arm)

Correction: France has 3 and dreams a 4th to ease the pressure on the other 3.

Is it 3 or 4? If its 3 I’m right. If its 4 you can correct me!

50 mph why? What to do with such speed? New warships are raceships?
French preww2 destroyers did 45 knots… Back to the future or new way of seawar, or new US exentricity after the zumwalt new monitor class?

As currently budgeted, the same as the final cost of aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth.

The two ships are designed to be identical, & able to perform both the carrier & LPH roles.

ok something Like french way of using the two clemenceau carriers with alternative PA1 and PA2 commissions?

If german gvt wants to help Israel, why not? But they can buy schools, hospitals, or civil technologies… Why weapons?

As I Know, german navy wanted to have a fourth T 124, cancelled, to have more T130, problems of budjet, and are trying to afford for years one or more lpd/lhd : no money! So surprising deal : ok to buy warships for a foreign contry, not for it’s own navy…
