just one thing about SPS Dedalo, she was a real light carrier with 5-6 AV8S Matador fighters, SH3 Sea Kings, AH1 Cobra, Hugues 500 and other Bell’s helos, and between 1976 and 1988…

Probably correct, apart from Albion and Bulwark never had Steam catapults (BH3 Hydraulics only, also fitted to Centaur from completion in 54 until her 57-58 refit when BS4s fitted).
absolutly true for Albion and Bulwark… never fitted with steam cats!
for the Minas Gerais, she should be the sole carrier in the world ever fitted with a Mc Taggart Scott steam catapult????
All the other Majestic/Colossus modified carriers were fitted with BS4… (Karel Doorman/25 de Mayo, Melbourne, Vikrant, Bonaventure)
Surprising?
X07:confused:
very interesting drawings, esp and shiplover!
What I wanted to say about the two cats, is :
Could a 717ft long carrier be fitted with two cats?
It seems that the lenght of the two cats are:
C.13.3 (or C11) 75 m long for the short one (French carrier CDG) and
C13 91 m long for the long one (US carriers)
this needs a lot of steam power…for instance, the french one (US licence made in the netherlands) is about 70000 shp, (50MW) so you have to fit your ship with a big steam power plant, and I believe that US ones are even more powerfull…, may be 100000 shp!
So the question is :
How can you fit two steam cats and a gas turbines powerplant in a 717 ft long carrier????
Your ship should also be quick enough to operate fighters, so she had to be fitted with at least two shafts (PdA only have one and 40000 shp)
so I think that the solution could be to fit only a steam powerplant and not a mixed steam/gas turbines, and may be only one cat….

as i can read in this post: according badger:
Considering the difference in power from 25 de Mayo’s cat and Vicky’s:
BS4; shuttle run 103ft; length 160ft; 40,000lb@78kt; Mod. Colossus & Majestics, Centaur, Albion, Bulwark, Hermes
BS4; shuttle run 145ft; length 200ft; 50,000lb@97kt; Mod Hermes, Ark Royal (1960), Victorious
then they might not need much speed at that!
I think that shuttle run of 25 de Mayo ‘s cat was 145 ft, with a total lenght of 199 ft, same as the ones fitted in Hermes after mod, ark and Victorious… that ‘s why they ‘re saying 199 ft long in Wiki’s article …. possible?
X07:confused:
very interesting design, shiplover!
how long is this ship? will she be able to have two cats?
what about power plant?
X:confused:
thanks for your answer!
I wasn’t sure if HMS Warrior kept her BH3 or was fitted with BS4… so BH3
for the Karel Doorman, my question is about the lenght of this catapult: it’s said in the link following that the lenght is 199 ft, but I believe it’s shorter…
HMS Eagle was fitted with two steam catapults during her refit in the beginning of the 60′, they were of BS5 type, and the port side forward catapult was 151 ft long and the waist catapult was 199 ft long! Neil Mc Cart says in his book that it’s the largest catapult to be fitted to any aircraft carrier in a European Navy… so does anybody know the lenght of the catapult of Karel Doorman/ 25 de Mayo?

What about Minas gerais? does a C3 catapult exist? Could it be a Mc taggart, or is it a Mitchell Brown BS4?
Thanks
X:confused:
Hello!
As this post talks about Colossus/Majestic Light carriers, I would have a few questions:
Was the HMS Warrior (next ARA Independencia) fitted with steam catapult (BS4) or not?
Was HMNLS Karel Doorman (next ARA 25 de Mayo) fitted with a Mitchell Brown BS4 199ft long or another type?
Was the Minas Gerais fitted with a BS4 Mitchell Brown cat, or as I read, a Mc Taggart C3 cat (I thought Mc Taggart was specialized in landing systems and not cat?)
Thanks for your answers
X07:)
You’re right, and it’s a good link!

French carrier CDG will enter 18 month refit.
May be French Rafale fighters will use US carriers for “touch and go”, but I don’t think that any deployment is scheduled. E2C should operate more easily.
SEM will probably not use MB Nae Sao Paulo’s deck, because this ship is always anchored in Rio de Janeiro Naval Base, and never put to sea, because a major problem with one of her catapult, still out of order.
X07
Sure Trackers can take of from US carriers and also CDG…FAB P16 Brazilian trackers did it between 1993 and 1998, when Minas Gerais catapult was out of order, but as you say, the deck has to be cleared. One ANA Sue once take a wire of Brazilian carrier during ARAEX exercise, but never take of the Minas Gerais, because a lack of power… a crane was finally used…
X07;)
Argentina’s SUE Fighters and S2T Trackers are not able to be catapulted from US carriers because they still use a bridle, and A4F Brazilian figthers too.
French Navy E2C are able to land and be catapulted from US carriers and already did it. French SEM have the same problem as Argentinians, bridle! French Rafale fighter should be able to land and be catapulted from US carriers, because French Carrier CDG is fitted with US Catapults! US E2C, C2A, F18C have already landed and be catapulted from CDG. French CDG is able to use bridle or not (so Argentina’s aircraft and Brazilian’s should be able to operate from this carrier)

Once again, thanks a lot, Mc Conrad’s!
Always a pleasure to discover your drawings!

Does anyone know what is in the aft bridge?
Forward bridge: navigation accomodations, sensors, funnel
Aft bridge: aviation accomodations, sensors, funnel
Posted by MN Kumar @ BR, CG of P17, P28 ASW corvette, Indias Aircraft Carrier from IDR magazine.
Indias Aircraft Carrier
P28 ASW corvette
P17 Shivalik Class Frigates
Thanks a lot for posting these drawings!:)
The ADS looks like Italian carrier Cavour, may be bigger.
The P28 drawing is amazing! very big ship for a corvette! Much bigger than T25/T25A class
