Spitfire Mk22
Had its first coat of Silver, used the silver as a base coat to see any inperfections, plus i’ve picked a few panels out (goin to do a few more) and masked them off so to give some difference in shades when top coat goes on.

Then a coat of this

Hi Andy
Sorry for late reply, works been alittle busy lately
Regarding fit IMO, The overall quality of the Airfix 1:48 Spit 22/24 and Seafire 46/47 is excellent. A few problems i’ve come across.
1 :- Is the fit of the bottom of the wing to the rear of the centre section is not the best. required quite abit of filler. May be just me though:rolleyes:
2 :- Everyone knows about the poor sliding hood fit, sits far too high, ive got a aero club one to replace it
3 :- The white on the decals is very translucent. The roundels deffo need white painting under them before putting on.
few pics. still along way off done.

Few more pics………..Seafire with korean war stripes painted on.

Spitfire Mk22 with primer applied

Abit of a comparison picture here, Seafire FR 47 next to mocked up Spiteful 🙂

With relation to the Seafires, 17 onwards, I “believe” that the lower half of the cockpit was interior green (although a paler shade than standard) and from the middle upwards was Black.
Just wondering if most RAF Piston aircraft post war (Tempest, Hornet Spit 24 and so on) went to a grey cockpit, not sure wot shade
pm box full Andy
Yep just making sure its same aircraft, cheers, that helps alot, more or less what we were thinking with the explosion on impact, scattered its self over a wide area.
did it come back with KIA’s? Andy?
Bump
Been back over it today, found a few bits and bobs, 3 cartrige cases, 2 spent and 1 un-fired.
any info much appriecated.
Mite have to sell one of my old RS Fords to fund the project :(:D
With regard to the tubing, wot would class as a airworthy material, dont get me wrong im not having wish full thinking, just a question.
I am aware of wots involved, as for build a cockpit section, it would be a very long term project, i have quite a few contacts who can help out with advice and finding items. Im also involved with aircraft digs, all legal and above board, it would be a case of trying to find some crash sites, although these are getting harder to find now a days. The aim would have to be original as possible for me, if that means waiting longer to find items and keeping it small then so be it.
XV499 at Leeming, she’s been there a while now, was supposed to be going to YAM, Hows her engines/mounts (or lack of)?
Strictly speaking apart from a couple of exceptions none of the K & M modetls (FG1 & FGR2s) can be called “Spey Engined” because they all have had their engines removed and mountings cut out……
XT597 was probably our last chance of having an active (fast taxiing) K or M model unless Duxford do something with XV474 or we can get XT899 repatriated from Aviation Museum, Kbely, Czech Republic
More spey than j79 🙂
Sorry for dumb question, but which F4 was this?
Ok mate, cheers
What are the chances of XV497 realy going to Newark????
