Been reading the replys with interest, I have a few ideas and may be a few places to go, museum wise with a few questions to ask and wot they think, I guess anything from the U.S. for a mear mortal like me is near on impossible
XR754 mate, I dont have any pics at the moment i’m afraid. You can find it on the Thunder and Lightning website, theres a pic of it inside the aeroventure hangar but it dosent look like that now:(, I saw it a couple of months ago, no radome, canopy and many other bits missing, basicly open to the elements
I think the F2a next to the A1 is well past it to be honest, its not far from me so seen it loads of time, I think there are a total of 3 airframes in Europe, the serial numbers escape me at the moment, 2 in Germany, still in Olive drab and one in Holland I think. all in 92 sqd markings, and the best example in Scotland, I would be interested if the cockpit ever came up for grabs of XM728, may be the best bit worth saving…………….?
If anyone wants a lightning cockpit theres one under a sheet that looks like its not be touched for a long time at aero venture South Yorks, an F6, nut sure wot their policy is with it but it just seems to be decaying at the moment.
“Is there anything else on your wish list?…. Non American?!!!!!!”
Lightning F2a
Seafire FR47
He 219uhu
Bristol Beaufighter 1, IV, X
Phantom FG1/FGR2
FW 190D-9/13
I’m sure if I sold my Escort Mk2 RS2000 I could afford one of those:D
Thanks for your replys, looks like abit of a non-starter then, Aircraft have played a big part in my life as have cars, mainly RS Fords, I am now thinking of possibly selling my cars and moving into aircraft, the cheap side of aircraft owership if there is one!,
The A-7 is one of my all time favorite aircraft and knowing that there not any in the UK I just wondered wot was the chances of getting one…..
A great Utube clip
Also, on the note of there only being one left in the world- There is a rumor that there is a gentlman in Germany who has the hulk of one, sans engines- He is a scrap dealer of some kind……But, hardly anyone has been able to confirm it, let alone get near it- I would love to know exactly where it is-
Its from a post on LSP modelling website I go on,
Heres the link to the page

Some Great picutres there, I remeber going to to Binbrook to see some rallying about 5 years ago and most of the runways where still intact at that time if I recall correcty, may have been longer.
Is it possible to take alook around the station and if so whos permission would I need?
excuse my ignorance but wot is avpin exactly? Starter fuel?
So I was right about the engines but possibly not about her running agian or even becoming live, shame she took so much stick after been demobbed:(
The most intact airfirmae I remeber at Rossington looked very much like the aircraft in the top of the picture but I cannont make out the serial number.

I see you lightning pics at Rossington but thats not how I remeber them………? I went there 1993 I remeber two cockpits upside down (been cut off airframes not sure which) and the rest in various states in different parts of the scrap yard, a number of F6’s and 2 T-birds. There was one airframe that was very intact which had the 5sqd emblem on the fin in full camo, not sure if this was the aeroveture example XS897?
Good to see the photos:)
I think I will pay another visit to Elvington next week and see wots the score, I’ll pop to aero venture too and get some pics of there F3 and F6 and post them up,
I went to Rossington Scrap Yard back in 93 and there were about 10 lightings there, on speaking to the chap who owned them he wanted £6000 each for them:eek: does any one have any pics of the Rossington aircraft when they where there?
Does anybody know if she was flown in? if she was transported how are the wings? they look ok

It was only what I was told a few years ago not sure how true it was………and I was only offering my services if needed if a project was ever to start
