Dave, thanks to your excellent pics it looks like we Kiwi’s are taking over this thread (very appropriate as its Wanaka time)
As soon as I figure out how to attach a pic will try and post afew also !
Damn fine !
Great Airshow, that Hamilton one !
I had a ride in the mighty Cat at Palmerston a few years later, great stuff, sort of like flying in your living room !
I think the interview is on the Wanaka Airshow video of that year. Is a very good interview with Mark Hanna on the Auckland Airshow (i think 93) video, about the P40 again !
I will hopefully make it to Duxford in Sept, was last at Wanaka in 1998…..
Dave,
very cruel to post this stuff, am far away from Wanaka !
…. am very homesick !
Give the P51 Miss Torque a pat for me !
… go easy on that fine South Island beer !
Dave
once again some excellent pics ! Was last there in about 2000, is the A4 still on display ?, or has Helen sold that also ?
I think that one was painted up as the one that W/C (later a/c) Fred Kinvig ejected out of at Ohakea.
Dave
Have driven past this often whilst on the way to Masterton !
Nice to know is still there !
Moggy,
have just had to take a blood pressure pill after reading your comment ! … will be laughing about that for the rest of today
Check out the Military Aircrew Forum on Pprune there is a current thread on Ejection Seats, has the picture !
At risk of boring everyone silly just a question re Piece of Cake..
In the book Fanny Barton was a New Zealander…in the series..an Aussi ?
Moggy, are you in the know about this ?
Dave,
have just been reading there is an open day at Ohakea tomorrow, P40 attending !, will you get to that one ?
Have seen many a good show there ! Whilst in Palmerston had many a good night in the mess also ! As a new B Cat I once did a BFR for Jim Rankin (all round good guy, I think still the RNZAFs only current A1), In return he put me in the Macchi Sim for a blast, great fun, but I crashed at least twice ! Another great guy who was very supportive of us civi types was Dave Forrest. He had flown an exchange tour with the RAF flying the Hawk. He told me one night that he had flown a Hawk into a Royal Navy base for an airshow and was told by some Air Marshall “you get in there faster and lower than any Navy pilot” ….. which he did…. he got a phone call shortly afterwards ” well done, but not that low next time” !
A real stab in the dark…………
was that the P51 used for the film Cloud Dancer ?
Could have been a couple of ex A4 jocks getting a quick rating before leaving to join the airlines !
