Really sad they blew that one !
Is the Masterton Airshow still a happening thing !
I went to the show there I think in 97, outstanding show. Mark Hanna did an incredible performance in the P40, but im told not as good as the show he put on whilst leaving on the Monday !
Dave
yip I remember that one also. That was a great airshow, lots of good stuff and well run. From memory there was alot of critisism about the show, don’t really know why !
Had my first sit in a Mustang there also, Trevor Bland showed me over 2415, always loved his P51 displays !
From memory this show produced a great formation display with Tim Wallis in the Spitfire and Trevor Bland in the Mustang, have never seen it repeated !…. shame !
Great Pics again !
I remember the Warbirds over Waikato show well. We were all having a beer at the Aero Club on the Friday night as the sun went down, when Tim Wallis and Tom Middleton each went up for abit of practise in the Spitfire, have never seen a show like it !
Happy Birthday !
And a serious WELL DONE to the outstanding young people who make up the RNZAF.
Whilst the govt ARE NOT, the people of NZ are very proud of their Air Force.
Well done Dave !
I think this was the first Spit I saw fly also, along with the Mark 14 at Wanaka in 1994 (I think !)
Best display I saw was watching Ray Hanna in MH434 at Biggin Hill, I think in about Sept 1997.
Dave,
more excellent pics ! Nice to see the one of Tom Middleton flying the P40. When I was Instructing in Palmerston North Tom would sometimes pop into the club for a coffee whilst his Saab was being turned around. He was always good for a chat, and had a stack of stories to tell.
One of aviation’s genuine nice guys !
The T6/24 was the Air Tourer, CFS had 4 of them for ATC cadets, and Instructor training. I think in the old days of University Officer Cadets they got to fly them a bit also !
Dave,
sounds like a wonderfull couple of days, I have been away from NZ for 5 years now and is wonderful to see some pics and hear afew old names !, any pics you can post are great !
I learnt to fly the trusty old T6/24 at Wigram to many years ago, my instructor at the time Sqn Leader John Grant (not a bad guy for ex Navy) was also the current display pilot for Harvard 15, I never got to fly in it, but did spend afew evenings sitting in the cockpit when I should have been learning checks !
No doubt you are all gearing up for Wanaka, would love to make it there (have always found Wanaka Airshow is simply a giant reunion of everyone you know in NZ aviation), but just don’t think it will happen for me this year !
Thanks again for posting all the great pics, is nice to have news from home !
ps any idea if P51 Miss Torque has found a buyer as yet ?
Was visiting a small airport in Philiadelphia last year, and came across the wreakage of two Wildcats. The owner had a similar story to tell, the US Navy would take them back if they got to know about them. Have some great pic’s will post when I figure out the attach picture thing !
Dave
Is that Phil Murray’s old Midgit Mustang in the back ground ?, and any idea what the crumpled wing with 21934, is from ?
Dave,
did they offer any of your team a quick flip in the back of the P51 for your efforts ?
Steve thankyou for your reply.
Am currently in Norway and had my first ever skiing lesson afew weeks back, went ok, but the beer afterwards went down better !
Nothing wrong with abit of MUSTANGS MUSTANGS MUSTANGS !
….. OR ABIT OF SEAFURY SEAFURY SEAFURY….
I think all of us remember watching our first Fury display, mine was at Wanaka I think in about 1994 !
Dave,
another good posting by you for us Kiwi’s ! I remember seeing TAF displayed in her yellow markings ! I think Alpine Fighter Collection’s Corsair was used also !
I have just finished a 4 year posting to Malaysia/Singapore (returning soon), drank alot of Tiger, but never did see the TV ad !
Main Interest !
