    Great!

Thanks for the info, guys 🙂

Another couple dumb questions… how do the non-European radars (Israeli/Indian, Chinese) compare to the Spy-1, in terms of capabilities, ranges?

Can anyone reccomend a nice url/resource where someone with no previous knowlege of naval systems, can learn about modern ones?

    Thanks again

    Hi

Can someone please please please give some information and pics or post a link about the follow-up aircraft proposals to the Marut? I’ve been searching this forum and googling for the last hour desperately trying to find some info about it

I distinctly remember some line drawings showing a very Tornado-looking variable-geometry aircraft (was it called HF-93??) that was proposed? Or at least can someone please enlighten me as to the correct name of these projects so I can try to find info?

I think it was Harry who originally posted it(?) here? Or was it posted on BR or somewhere else?

    MANY thanks in advance!

US firm to sell 100 ’copters to India

BANGALORE: US-based Bell Helicopter Textron wants to sell 100 of its 407-model helicopters to the Indian military, a senior official of firm said on Wednesday.

What is with the Pak press? Going to sell == “wants to sell”?

The PLAAF is getting the FC-1 in small numbers as well, right? If so, I doubt America would supply engines to this aircraft, even if the biggest end user is Pakistan.

Plus isn’t France bound by export embargo of PRC, ruling out this option as well? Or can engines be supplied?

    Hey fellows,

Whatever happened to the idea of creating a comprehensive, sourced webpage on the LCA, detailing all that information that has been posted in threads here?

I am very keen on lending support to such a project, including wrangling favors and having such a website hosted for free.

Is anyone interested in such a project?

Is there anyone willing to compile and create the content for such a webpage??

If so, let’s get cracking on this!

    Hi Sridhar

For a newbie, what are the advantages of a reuseable launch vehicle versus a one-shot one? Are they doing it simply for the benefit of research and development of the astronautics industry, or will there be a material (cost) benefit for this r&d?

Discover magazine had a brilliant article several years ago about how oil will never ‘dry up’. It may get extraordinarily expensive, but the crude is there if we really want it. They talked about the massive oil shale and sand deposits in Canada and Russia that, though rigth now prohibitively expensive to extract, contains several times more oil than all of arabia.

This may be a good source of info for you:

    Hi all

What is this a/c in the attached image?

Is it simply ‘fan art’ or a possible design?

‘31 planes crashed in four years’

    Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Thirty-one fighter aircraft have crashed while on normal operational missions from 2000 to 2003, Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal told the Senate on Wednesday.

The information was placed before the house in a written reply to a question raised by Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmed. The minister submitted that seven pilots died during the four years and four were injured during ejection.

According to a year-wise break-up, two pilots died in 2001, one in 2000, two in 2002 and two in 2003 while two were injured in 2000 and one each during 2001 and 2003.

Nine aircraft crashed in 2001 and 2002 and six in 2000 and seven in 2003. Though the make of the aircraft had not been mentioned, they included F-7, A-5 and Mirage.

About the precautions taken to avoid the recurrence of these accidents, the defence minister said that recommendations from board enquiries to operational training syllabus and technical developments were taken.

He said that Rs 229,7055 had been paid in compensation for the damage incurred by these accidents in various parts of the country.

The defence minister informed the house that 39 people had been inducted in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on contract during the last four years. “Of these 39 people, 31 are from the armed forces, while eight were hired from the open market,” he added.

Among those inducted were CAA director generals, Air Marshal (r) Salim Arshed and Air Marshal (r) Pervea Akhtar Nawaz.

Meanwhile, State Defence Minister Dr Wasim Shehzad agreed with the opposition senators’ point of view that the figures for impounded vehicles, arms and narcotics from Makran division were not satisfactory and that he would take up the issue with the officials concerned in the next meeting.

The IAF has also tasked its elite combat school to develop manoeuvres for MiG-21s to elude the radar cones of F-16s.

How significant is the above in the scheme of things? Has this excercise given the IAF the opportunity to leverage another advantage on -21s v. the F-16s?

mate chill out a bit show some respect

    Those aren’t my words.

As I say again, I cross posted a post made by Tom Cooper of ACIG on CDF. I thought it provided another perspective on this topic by someone of repute.
