What a great opportunity to get some proper filming of two together rather than computer generated stuff for the future Dambuster’s remake, I wonder if anyone concerned had thought of this even if its just distance, flying over or ground shots?
Following this thread and with the comments of the plane possibly becoming the Lufthansa variant wouldn’t this have single main wheels?, if this is the way ahead seems strange that the original double wheel combination has been restored as such…not a criticism but just an observation?
FW200 Restoration
Many thanks for sharing pics its a shame the restorers don’t have a website showing regular work.
Can A Wellington Ever Fly Again?
Those lucky enough to be around the Farnborough area in the 80s and 90s could regularly see if not hear the nearest flying relative of a Wellington in the air albeit a Varsity of the RAE.
My father would always recall hearing the Rotodyne start up and run, considering we lived some four miles south of Wokingham and about 8 miles from White Waltham airfield [as the crow flys] so i wonder if anything aviation connected today could reproduce the same level of noise which could be heard over the same distance on start up?.

What scale was that mock up Stuka in the film? Id always assumed it was a much smaller model. Was this 2/3rd scale? Oreven maybe 1/1 scale? Great shots, all of them.
I never realised that an almost? full scale replica was used for that scene but always assumed that small radio control models were used for that sequence, one of these survives in the window of a surplus military gear shop at Badshot Lea near Aldershot.
A few years ago while walking the Surrey Hills I discovered that Sir George Edwards is buried in the wonderful little church yard of St Martha’s on the Hill at Chilworth near Guildford. The church is accessible via a long but scenic climb through woodland, once there you have fantastic views over Guildford and surrounding area’s.
Nice pic of RH798, I think its at the RAE Farnborough and it took part in one of the early SBAC shows?
BoB directors Cut
There was surely a lot of footage that ended up on the cutting room floor. I have seen stills showing AA batteries and, for example, inside the East End reception centre that never made the final cut.
If you are lucky enough to have a complete BoB Postcard Album by J Arthur Dixon there is a splendid colour postcard BB28 by Keith Hamshere showing a 3.7 AA battery in night action with surrounding searchlights, it says this photograph was taken during filming of Battle of Britain.
There is also a set of 66 photo cards produced by A&BC Chewing gum at the time with many scenes not shown in film such as a German AA gun and crew defending airfield, a diiferent angle shot of Heinkel crew briefing and plane just in a hangar [Adlertag scene], rear view of at least a dozen “ME109s” wait for take off and Heinkels being un covered from screens of cam netting.
The late Robert Rudhall wrote two superb books on the film which i believe are now out of print, each of these give such a tremendous amount of background and detail that is essential for anyone who has an interest in this classic film of the 60s.
Just flew over Winnersh, Berks at 1.30, heading Farnborough direction low and slow fantastic and very lucky to see!
Interesting the mention of this yard as i remember it well in the late 60s and early 70s, passing along Yorktwn Rd the rear of the old petrol station was surrounded by corrogated iron fencing and i thin topped with barbed wire?. There was always visible remnants of fuselages with usually dayglo orange making it all very conspicious.
The road alongside was indeed and still is Florence Rd and i recall then it was no more than an unmade track. The site was rented by Staravia and i think they came from Ascot.
Later on long after the site was re developed turned into a purpose car garage with showroom and later on bought by the Dolphin Head Group.
However [not far from here as the crow flies] and at ngr SU 805 629 which was an old chicken farm along the Lower Sandhurst Rd at Finchampstead Aircraft fuselages etc appeared again very visible from adjacent lane due to dayglo and alloy skins at the rear of the farm, this site was shared with variuos car repair businesses and during an early evening caught fire circa 1988 all soon disappeard[and was built on with a modern development of housesQUOTE=Mark12;1920562]Here is a shot I took 8.
The was also a derelict Harvard at nearby Blackbushe for some time. I have it recorded as KF405 on 25 February 1957

This pictured plane flew over Wokingham with a Triplane this morning around 10 am heading toward Hampshire.
BBC4 Operation Crossbow
The second time i have seen this and i agree better the second time around and makes paying your licence fee part way to being worthwhile!
I think its a great shame that the IWM does not display so many of its hidden gems such as the Peenemunde model for all to see even if it is for a limited period, so many fascinating artifacts must be hidden away that wouldnt take too much space or time to display.
This goes for all types, military, aviation and naval.
