 while not at sea those ships are not exactly sitting abandoned at peer. Drills at peer are just about as effective as drills at sea.

notice how at the end he had nothing good to say about the F-35….. :diablo:

Its pretty clear from this that one on one the Flanker will kill the F-15 more often than not.

Why not talk about the Su-35 if we are talking about the F-22? Both are the future of their respective countries until 2020.

the mistake is thinking the pak-fa will actually be a flying device. I say the PAK-FA will be Sukhois break into the sex toy market — the worlds stealthiest vibrating sex toy. You need 14,500kg of thrust to power the strap on version hence the new engine.

the thing supposedly has some sort of new ROV and other electronic goodies. The boat itself is a glorified piece of slow poorly put together (the skin looks like it was put on with hammers) junk, but its the little goodies on board that account for all the delay. Considering the kit out of older soviet minesweepers the Zakharin is a generational leap.

Many gray hairs later he is almost finished! Considering the original of the class is armed with no ASM’s at all I think the Uran is a major improvement over NOTHING. Sad that even three year later they still plan on keeping the Klinok on him. Klinok is basically useless.

I personally question the assumption the newer Russian long range air to air missiles are really only meant for AWACS killing. The K-172 shown in 1993 was based on the Buk SAM which certainly has proven in Georgia that it can down fighters like the Su-24 and 25 just fine. The new redesigned missile is believed to be superior to the old Buk based missile. The real benefit of such a missile is the size of the seeker. Again LO targets every millimeter of seeker surface area is crucial. A smarter, more powerful, seeker is more important than the ability to turn an extra half g or an extra mach in speed.

there have been some reports on the Rosprom website hinting that RATEP had improved some SAM installations on Russian ships but nothing very detailed. Also, zvezdanews reported the Varyag was only repaired and some power generating equipment replaced.

su-35 can supercruise. In tests it supercruised in clean config at mach 1.1 and the pilot in his interview said it could have gone faster but since they are still in the early part of test flights we was not allowed to accelerate to full speed.

when the CVF runs into the INEVITABLE delays and cost overruns that it will surely see you are all going to eat your words.

The Indians for there part are content enough with the current deal that there is talk already of executing their option for more MiG-29K’s.

There is also zero reason to believe that the smaller Gorshkov will cost more to operate than a CVF besides your own personal biases that is.
