If I didn’t know any better I’d say that was an YF-23! 😮

Can somebody explain to me the meaning of the word ‘conservative’?

It means “Sit down and take your medicine, Otaku” in bohemian. And I thought I was excited… 😉

this thing is supposed to have 5 AESA antennae arrays, some of which were supposed to be embedded in the wings

I wouldn’t call it “embedded” so much as “tacked on” to be honest. Maybe it’s a removable pod that can be used for ECM duties and the like?

Any guesses on what the official designation would be? Su-37? They’ve reused designations before.

What we need is one of those super hi-res images of the second image; the one with the clear shot of that precious weapon bay(s).

Looking at the tail end of those exhaust pipes; they look very round and reminiscent of the Su-27 family; but it doesn’t look anywhere as stealthy as the front. Perhaps they skimped out on stealth to save cost, focusing on the frontal portion?

Also: Check out the featureless dome in front of the canopy; no visible port so it couldn’t be an IRST…?

Well I have my PC wallpaper for the month.

One question I have is does anyone see a gun on this thing? Looks like this thing doesnt have one!

Well it’s only a prototype model after all.

I SERIOUSLY doubt they’d make the production model without a gun; the Russians are one of the last serious proponents of dogfighting after all.

Look for the 2 smaller side bays on the intakes.

I can’t possibly see where they would be; the sides are taken up by the landing gear nacelles and the area under the intakes are too small; I doubt that the PAK FA has side bays considering how large that center bay is said to be, with two rows of missiles one in front of the other.

Yes there is a moveable lerx, it was rumored by the insiders a few weeks ago.

What purpose would a moveable LERX have anyway?

n00b question here… Are they the same as that LEVCONs thinggy?

    The whats???

Looks like there’s two “doors” visible, with a “no door” middle?!

    Bad view?

My guess is that there is one single weapons bay running the length of the fuselage which could be open with just one set of doors or all of them depending on the size of the ordnance. I think Paralay touched on that idea in one of his sketches.

I have a question (not a an airpower guy so bear with me)…but what does this mean for the Eurocanards?…..to me (little knowlage) they look slightly…”outdated” now.

They’re only 4.5 generation jets; they were technically outdated a long time ago. This PAK FA is most definitely a fifth-gen and I do go on record at risk to my own life, limb, and liberty and say this thing would decimate the eurocanards. :diablo:

well girls, i gotta say, i’m going to eat my words that i’ve said to you pak-fa fanboys about it not coming out. it actually came out and its a pretty sweet looking airplane.

so i guess what will follow are:
    f-22 vs pak-fa threads
    f-35 vs pak-fa threads
Indian AF fans boasting about how good FGFA will be
PAF and PLAAF fans downplaying how good the airplane is
Americans wanting Obama to fund more F-22s
Kopp saying Indonesia is going to get Pak-Fa
    Europeans at a loss.

Don’t forget the biggest one of all; fanboys all over calling the T-50 a F-22/F-23/Tie-Fighter/Jesus ripoff and a few deluded Russian fanboys claiming the inverse. (“The Americans stole the designs twenty years ago!”) :p

    see here

That is interesting. I could see it being either acting as as sort of LERX/Canard hybrid like you said or doing something for the engine intake.

I’m assuming it’s just a leading edge flap, although it’s close proximity to the intakes might mean something. I’ve a little rusty on aerodynamics on late, though I couldn’t say for sure.

Can anyone here remember from all the years of guesswork the speculated armament of this thing?

So where the hell did they fit this massive weapons bay that can hold the Kh-58UShKE & R-37?

According to some speculation a while back from Paralay’s drawing, the PAK FA would have one very long weapons bay that could accomodate two to three of those massive suckers.

You can see the weapons bays. Another poster on another forum says he can see three but I just see one. Your thoughts?

Good to see we finally got a good view of those inlets. Definitely fixed inlets. Good video of that tail rudder in one of those pictures too.

Couldn’t help but notice that this thing looks awfully similar to a certain fictional Ace Combat aircraft:

with the active counter air defense systems.

Active counter defense systems? You dont suppose they attached a CIWS to the belly of the PAK FA do ya? :p

But seriously, Active defense in English refers to defense systems which destroys the incoming projectile? Could they have gone ahead and implemented such a thing or is this just a translation error? Hell, there could be more to this than they’re saying. Maybe it’s that laser defense thing. 😉

I’d love to see the pricing on this thing. And I wonder if anyone around here is still convinced it has plasma stealth? :dev2:

The term you people are looking for is “cropped delta wing.”

But… can it do the cobra???

It’s Russian, what do you think?

Small tail for highly reduced side RCS vs. the F-22’s huge tails?

Well the F-22 design is ten or twenty years older than the PAK FA, so undoubtedly the PAK FA will have some newer, better features than the F-22. Though some of you might have trouble coming to accept that. :diablo:

So basically its a delta wing planform, not a conventional layout. Looks like the FB-22 images that floated around years ago.

It’s hard to tell from this angle, but there appears to be a blended-ish tail behind that wing much like the Su-47 had. Sorta.
