Be Careful, man. You don’t want to wake the tomcat fanboys from hibernation, do you? 😮 😉
In a sense, the Sea Harrier retirement was a little early, even if it was justified. They didn’t see the need for an upgrade to stretch it only four years and I agree, but it did leave a bit of a gap in air superiority on the seas. Fortunately, there’s no real threat in the region…
IMHO the MiG-35 allready holds a significant advantage over most of the western contenders, the Indians allready have the logistical infestructure and weapons arsenal required for the Fulcrum familly.
Agreed 100%. The relative commonality between the Mig-35 and India’s Mig-29Ks alone should be reason enough for them to purchase the Mig-35.
If anything, they could go nuts on their F-15Js and turn them into modern equivalents of the F-15ACTIVE, with TV, RAM, HMS, ASEA, HOBS… :diablo:
If Japan does not get the F-22, what choice do they have?
F-35, An F-15 upgrade, or Typhoon, mostly. If I recall, those are their next choices, after the F-22. And the F-18E but I dont think Japan would ever seriously consider that…
Or maybe a Sukhoi? 😮
They seem bent on getting the F-22 or something of comparable capability (ATD-X) and the F-22 is currently denied to them, yet they don’t seem to dedicated to the ATD-X program. Hmm…
What about Korean projects for 5th generation design?
Word is, there isn’t much hope for it, according to this report.
S. Korea May Drop Stealth Fighter Development Plan
The KFX, ATD-X, and I’m guessing at this point the Indian MCA are all on life support at this point it seems. A damn pity; I’m REALLY hoping the ATD-X at least gets airborne.
I mean, come on, its the land of anime and giant robots; they NEED an indigenous fighter jet! 😮
Anyone think they have an idea of what temperature that B-2 is at in that photo? I wonder if it’s possible to chill or heat the surface of the plane to match the background radiation to effectively render it invisible?
/idle speculation
Do you guys think there’s any possibility of one the Branches of the US Military dropping from the JSF program altogether? I’ve been hearing rumors about the US navy wanting to do that…
That… kind of looks like CGI to me… my gut feeling.
All that to look for animals? Perhaps they’re testing out the world’s first Air-to-Animal missile system.
Any idea what kind of UAV it will be? Predator, maybe?
and the T-50 Trainer cum fighter

Not many countries can afford PAK-FA (the export version). A smaller, lighter and cheaper 5th gen aircraft will have huge opportunities on the world-wide market. Nowadays the Russian military-industrial complex is very much export minded.
But by the time this new jet becomes ready for export (2020s, maybe?), wouldn’t the F-35 have had a ten-year jump and already secured a lot of potential orders?
Only thing I could find was that Osama Bin Laden formed Al Qaeda on my birth day (August 11). 😮 🙁
PAK-FA round-up, and MiG’s LMFS refuses to die:
Here I was getting all excited until I read it’s not scheduled to fly (if at all, even) until 2016? Going by russian scheduling, that means it probably wont fly until 2025! Dammit, I’ll be old and icky by then!!
😀
And hyper, you put the dreaded banana in your emoticon party!! For I am not worthy enough to remark about the almighty dancing banana. 😮
Is the USAF still after a Mach 2.4 bomber, or will the “B-3” be more along the lines of a smaller B-2
The “B-3” or the 2018 bomber is originally intended to be a stop-gap until the supersonic/hypersonic “2036 Bomber” comes into service, but it seems the USAF intends for this jet to have a significant role in the US bomber arsenal after all. It will also be subsonic, to reduce costs. Link.
Rumor is it might carry A2A missiles for self-defense.
“Self-defending” is a desire for the bomber to “have as much of an autonomous survivability capability as [is] practical, against a wide range of advanced threats,” an Air Force spokeswoman explained. For example, an LRS aircraft carrying air-to-air missiles has “enhanced survivability” against enemy fighters.
Probably just using the air-to-air missiles concept as an example, but perhaps she was referring to the new bomber itself? At any rate, the precise requirements for the bomber will be released in 2009.
Hmm, a tail gun.
You know, I wonder how viable it would be to install a CIWS gun system on a bomber, to deal with incoming missiles? It would certainly be possible on a B-52, at least…
