So is the official designation Su-35, Su-27BM, or Su-35BM?
I find it a pity that the canards we’re removed, if only for aesthetic reasons. ๐ก The previous Su-35/37 just looked so, well, cool IMO. Well I guess they really aren’t necessary since it now has TV as a standard fit.
EDIT: BTW the basic spec movie isn’t working for me either. Anyone else having trouble?
30% eh? Does anyone know when development started? I was like a few months ago, right? Maybe we can use this to predict when it will be finished? ๐
What? No additional lumps and bumps? I’m disappointed ๐
Nononononono, it’s CFT boobs are bad enough, and you want to see it get even uglier?! ๐ฎ
What would that enlarged tail be used for anyway? Avionics? A parachute?
It’s enlarged spine is gone as well. Could that what the enlarged tail be for. What advantages would moving the spine further back have?
Well so much for the aforementioned F-16 “Block 70”
Considering the hype, I was half expecting for something new and interesting, like a delta wing, or thrust vectoring, or hyperlasers or something nonsensical. One can dream…
That’s a very good overview, plawolf. Thats what I like to see. ๐
And James, a quick glance at the J-10 wikipedia (*cough*) article calls it the “J-10 Vigorous Dragon” and the “F-10 Vanguard” (I think for supposed PAF service). So just like the F-16 Fighting Falcon is called the “Falcon,” you could call the J-10 the Dragon
Hehe, the match you’ve been waiting for:
Innnnnn the left corner, the challenger at 30,000 pounds, its theeeeeeeeee Vigorous Dragon! And in the right corner, at 25,000 pounds, its the reigning champion; its the Venerable Viper! Its the Electric Jet! c’mon folks, lets give a round of applause for the one, and only, Fighting Falcon!!! Will the new challenger prove its mettle against the reigning champ? Will he finally overthrow the legendary Falcon? Or will our veteran fighter bring home the gold yet again!? It is time to place your bets! Now in pay-per-view. ๐
J-8 was a clone of the Russian twin-engine MiG-21 program and never has a future; it was the best China could do at the time. Perhaps you are wondering if the J-8-II has a future?
Yes, sorry I didn’t clarify beforehand. In particular I’m referring to the latest variants like J-8F, H, and F-8IIM.
I always sorta viewed the J-8II as the little Mig-31 that couldn’t. ๐ฎ
Personally I think this whole concept sounds more like a scheme to promote for more F-18E export orders.
And I couldn’t help but notice their generation drivel; 4.5 generation, 4.75 generation, blah blah, etc. With the Russians with their plus sign fetish (4++++ jets or what have you) and now this, this whole generation advertising scheme is staring to really grate on my nerves for some reason.
Well they’ve obviously played Ace Combat Five; the final mission is EXACTLY like this. Even the satellite looks like it came out of the game.
God I love this crap. The zenith of aviation nerd-dom. :p
I donยดt know whether this has been mentioned on this forum but Switzerland has officially announced a competition for a fighter to replace the F-5 Tiger. The contenders are..
Dassault Rafale
EADS Eurofighter 2000
McDonnel Douglas F-18E Super Hornet
SAAB JAS39 Gripen
Eh, the usual suspects I see. Personally I think the Gripen is a no-brainer winner here; that plane is perfectly suited for a small country like Switzerland, not to mention the manufacturer is in the local neighborhood and they have plenty of jets to spare. The other three are unnecessarily complex and expensive for Switzerland’s needs IMO.
Mirage 4000 and F-20, BUT…
Had the F-20 secured it’s Taiwanese order, the F-CK-1 Ching Kuo (Another personal favorite of mine) probably would have never existed. So perhaps the F-20’s doom was necessary?
Speaking of which, I would have liked to seen the F-CK-1 fly with a proper engine fit.
And I would have loved to see the Mirage 4000 go into service; a nice foil to US F-15s and soviet ’27s.
Regarding the IAR-95 and Novi Avion, they both kind of live on in the JF-17 and Rafale respectively. Compare the two and see what I mean.
Thrust vectoring can help, but it can’t win a battle against laws of newtonian physics, unless the F-22 can move at relativistic speeds… or higher ๐
You know, considering how much money the USAF is paying per plane for that darn thing, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if it could.
upgraded single-seater aircraft are Typhoon FGR Mk 4s (abbreviated Typhoon FGR4). The FGR designation denotes Fighter, Ground Attack and Reconnaissance.
I was under the impression that they ditched the FGR designator some time ago in favor or FA, such as the Sea Harrier.
The best looking PAK-FA renderings but these are also an artist’s impressions.
I’ve seen that design before, but not this good. Aside from the F-22ski art floating on the web this design seems to be pretty popular among artists’ renditions.
Someone here brought up this issue before: Those vertical stabilizers look far too small, unless it’s supposed to use TV in that role…
The discussion is dangerously close to going off-topic, but what the hey:
Well regarding the Japanese procurement, you know they also have that ATD-X concept in the works too; from what I’ve seen they seem determined on getting something in the air (if anything to convince the US to sell them the Raptor). Whether or not they actually produce it for their forces in the question.
Anyone know what kind of upgrade their 15’s will get? Probably an avionics boost and maybe ASEA, imo.
Oh my…
Goodness, it’s almost surreal to see a plane that large land like that in the second video, even for the herc. Its like an oversized VTOL. From hell. ๐ฎ
