Word, yo. As the study mentions the F-35 “losing” the same simulation, this is clearly aimed at saving face for losing the Norway buy to the Lightning.
But in my personal opinion, the days of the Gripen in the export market is already in it’s death throes. Once the F-35 starts making it’s rounds, the Gripen will go the way of the unfortunate middleman just like the Northrop F-20 was, stuck between the more capable and newer F-16 or the cheaper but still workable F-5E. Or in the Gripen’s case, the F-35 and the F-16E. For the F-20, customers would rather get the newer and more expandable F-16, and if they couldn’t they’d just get the F-5E and save some cash in the process.
The best bet is to use this “study” and convince the Swedish AF to upgrade their JAS 39C/D models to NG standard. Because it is actually possible for Sweden to find itself under assault by the latest Su-35 models as Ivan is only a few hundred klicks to the east. 😉
