So the F-22 is not going to be exported to Japan. In other news, bear sh its in wood. More news on this story at eleven.

Wonder what this spells for the ATD-X project? That project could have very well been like the British stealth fifth-gen project; it was a bargaining chip to the US gov and their F-35. Only in this case its for the F-22.

I’ve heard of that “F-15FX” before. Anyone else know anything more about it?

Around 2001/ 2002 the whole request for proposals was dumped by the then Australian Government. The short list comprised of 4 aircraft , (The SU-30 series was one of them!).

    What were the others?

Wasn’t the Su-32FN supposed to be carrier capable?

…huh. Would sure add an extra dimension to the Ace Combat series…

So… what would the PAK FA do? Drop sonobouys and torps in the water like patrol planes?:eek:

Heheh, torpedo bombers would be the last fighter aircraft I’d expect to make a comeback. Let alone a stealth one. 😀

Haey, that’s one day after my birthday! Couldn’t think of a better Birthday gift! :diablo::D

And how in the hell is the PAK FA supposed to deal with underwater targets?:confused::confused:

    From Wiki:

    Advanced Defense Fighter

There were some initial concepts for further developments of the IDF project. After the IDF basic variant was finalized, the next step would have involved an upgrade with systems improvement, new technologies, and adjustments of material and weight. Then the next advanced version of the IDF would have configuration modifications, performance improvement, advanced technologies, new materials and applications of advanced weapons. Finally, the next generation design would have taken place.

Doesn’t say much, now that I think about it.

EDIT: Damn, there was a pic floating around showing the detailed developmental history of the F-CK-1 Project but I don’t have it. If only I can find it…

From what I’ve heard, they did in fact upgrade SOME (I think) of them to C/D variants.

There were plans for a much better upgrade with new engines, but those were pretty much killed off when Taiwan got their hands on those new F-16s.

The IDF program may very well be dead at this point. 🙁

So by 2025 IAF plans to have a fleet of PAK-FA, Su 30 MKI, MCA, MRCA(whichever plane wins), and LCA. Five AC types looks all rite to me as the PAK FA and upgraded MKI, MCA etc may share engine and avionics. Not much of a logistical nightmare.

Where does the MCA fit in all this? They’re still going on with that program, even as the LCA program keeps having problems?

I sincerely doubt it will ever come to fruition, especially now with the “merger”. Russia is already putting all of it’s funds into the PAK FA, and along with the Su-35, I doubt they would actually put funds into a second fifth gen design since they already have one.

…In relatively unrelated news, the name of the guy who took those photos is named Guy Norris. It’s a much more manly clone of Chuck Norris! Seriously, it puts hair on your chest and nuts just to say it. 😮

I wonder what the dimensions of this thing is? It looks as big as a conventional fighter jet now.

EDIT: Waitaminit, didn’t they CANCEL the X-47 program two years ago???

All depends. The Paralay sketch is based on the Saturn pic, after all.

You know, for a while there the PAK FA was said to be a conventional-winged Su-47 (blah ), but that repeatedly seems less and less the case…

If that cheetah can outrun a modern fifth-gen infared guided missile, then we need to be mass-cloning these supercheetah and replacing our armed forces with ’em. Cause that is one powerful cheetah. 😮 😀
