well India is overdue for taking a leaf out of PLANAFs book and building a pool of ASM capable fighters not just one miserable jaguar squadron. they ought to make sure the Mig29K AND MRCA both have the sea surveillance radar modes and electronics to accept the harpoon/exocet models.

the zhukME on the mig29K already has sea surface search modes with the ability to fire missiles at two targets simultaenously.with the open architecture that the mig29K has i dont think it will be a problem to integrate it with any US or french missile.

Valid statement, tho on the plus side, the opponent is gonna go nuts.

Imagine launching a Harpoon and a KH-35 and a Exocet, countermeasures are going to be very very hard against “mixed” salvos either against single ships or even against a group..without cutting edge EW on every ship..

well launching different types of missile simultaenously against the same target will be difficult to co-ordinate.interesting will be to study the flight profiles of these missiles.having different types of flight profiles will mean that theres always an option available whatever the nature of defensive systems the opponent has.

as far as the opponent going nuts, the best defense the likely opponent cud put up against any missile is i think only the phalanx.

Add old P-20 Styx on the Veer class missile boats. Mig-29Ks also have Kh35. Whats the diff b/w Kh31A2 and Kh35, range/payload speed wise?

lets leave out the P20 from these.i think its already been replaced in some ships.

    missile/range/speed/air launch capability/land attack
    brahmos/300kms/ mach 2.5/ being developed/ yes
    kh31/ 70kms/ mach3+/ yes/ no??
    kh35/ 130kms/subsonic/ yes/no
    exocet/~70kms/subsonic/yes/??
    harpoon/150kms??/subsonic/yes/yes
    klub/220kms/subsonic/??/yes

that video of IL38 was indian.

btw ,if harpoon is selected that will mean there will be 6 different types of antiship missiles in the inventory.among them 4 subsonic
    1.brahmos
    2.kh31A2
    3.kh35
    4.exocetes on scorpenes
    5.klub
    6.harpoon
keeping brahmos out of consideration and say the seaeagle is retired, why r so many types at all necessary particularly subsonics??it wud have been better i think if they integrated the kh35 with the jag.and anycase the mig29ks r gonna have kh31A2.

cant it carry the KH59 for the land attack missions?

the airlaunched brahmos LACM i think is already in the pipeline with the MKI carrying 3..

IMHO,if the MRCA r inducted in the timeframe say 2010-2012 they must be in service at least till 2030.now in this scenario i think IAF should go for a aircraft with a modern airframe design like the rafale or typhoon or even the F18.for me the mig35 or the F16 are obsolete airframe designs.however the problem will be the cost.in that case the deal should be for F18/mig35 fifty fifty or may be rafale/mig35.also choosing between the rafale, typhoon n F18 i think that the french have in the past proved 2 be more reliable than the other countries.

    Detection range of Zhuk ME: 110-120 KM/ 45-50 (forward/ rear hemisphere), 10/4 (TWS/ engage)
    Zhuk MFE:100-110/ 45-50, 20/4 (TWS/ engage)
    Bars-29: 100-120 / NA , 15/5( TWS/ engage)

but the detecction range can be equal 2 the TWS range but the engege/lock on surely must be lower??

whats givn in BR site is “forward facing NIIP N-011M radar which has a 350 km search range and a 200 km tracking range. “

what kind of RCS r we talking abt here?

and another thing …..do india have the MICA…..i got confused bcoz although there seem 2 be no record of it anywhere but the theres an article having the interview of US airmen who participated in the cope04,and they said that the indians were simulating AR missiles like the R77 and the mica.

as far as i kno, india has already done a deal with israal for the derby and the elta radar for its harriers…..so integrating the derby with the other a/cs wont be a problem.

those who r fed up waiting for the MRCA RFPs to float(like me)….think like this…….
    126 MRCA MINUS 12M2K5= 114 still to go….. 😀

more seriously…..they r definitely attrition replacements……and hopefully this time they r coming………
