Dassault Statement On Rafale Winning MMRCA
Livefist, jan 31
Saint-Cloud (France), January 31, 2012: Following the announcement of the final selection of the Rafale in the frame of the MMRCA program, Dassault Aviation and its partners are honored and grateful to the Indian Government and the people of India to be given the opportunity to extend their long-lasting cooperation. Dassault Aviation and its partners reiterate their commitment to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Air Force and underline their pride in contributing to India’s defence for over half a century.
And a statement from French President Nicolas Sarkozy:
The President of the French Republic has learned of India’s selection of the Rafale for the acquisition by the Indian Air Force of 126 fighter aircrafts. France is pleased with the Indian government’s decision to select the French aircraft to enter into exclusive negotiations with Dassault. This announcement comes at the end of a very high-level, fair and transparent competition involving two European finalists. The Rafale has been selected thanks to the aircraft’s competitive life-cycle costs, after the April 2011 pre-selection on the basis of its top-level operational performance. The negotiation of the contract will begin very soon and has the full support of the French authorities. It will include important technology transfers guaranteed by the French government. The realisation of the Rafale project will illustrate the depth and scale of the strategic partnership between France and India.

Dassault shares highest in 22 years…
But those two countries are certainly why India decided to launch such an ambitious MMRCA program.
Not really. But thats besides the point.
As per my experience this line of discussion will rapidly deteroriate into a massive Indo-pak- china furball..
maybe opening a new thread on that is a better option.
where is Hotdog when you need him?
…….
The Dassualt team has been issued a letter confirming the Indian MOD’s choice, sources told Defenseworld.net. Separately, Eurofighter executives were called in and informed of their elimination from the contest this afternoon, sources close to Eurofighter informed Defenseworld.net.
The final choice was made on price, sources said adding that the French aircraft’s total cost worked to about 20% cheaper than that of the Eurofighter.
I dont think bringing Pak and China into this thread is a very good idea….
This is the largest number of French aircraft ever to be ordered in IAF history ..bigger than 104 Ouragans and 104 Mysteres and 51 M2Ks..
F 35s probably?
Seems like the Rafale price was significantly lower than the Typhoon…as reports suggest.
Yeah..TOI also reports the same…
Congrats to the IAF and the MoD for choosing a good aircraft!

Any info on the sensor turret under the Fregat radar, on the Shivalik?
BEL EON-51 EO gunfire control system.
If someone were to design a fighter using best features of both Rafale and Typhoon [as they stand now] , then what would he take from each?
Ground clearance issues ? Shouldn’t that have prompted the designers to use a more “flatter” tank like Gripen ?
Or is ground clearance an issue only for “bring-back” ?
No..as per some chaiwallah its bothways..
As for the design…well you”ll have to ask ada/bashi
@Twinblade
What Swerve said. The only thing that should be improved upon is the payload capacity. Its even less than a 9M528 projectile.
@BA
I just hope that they do operationalise it..
Nice pic.

Agni-V launch soon: DRDO
Agni-V, the 5,000-km version of the nuclear capable missile, is in the final phase of testing and is soon set for launch, a senior DRDO official said here today.
“Agni-V is in the final phase of testing. I cannot predict the exact date of its launch, but it will be launched shortly,” Chief Controller R and D (Missiles and Strategic Systems) at DRDO, Avinash Chander, said.
He was addressing a press conference at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory to mark the conclusion of its year-long golden jubilee celebrations,
Agni-V, touted as India’s most ambitious strategic missile, will follow last year’s test of the country’s most advanced surface-to-surface missile Agni-IV.
The three-stage Agni-V and the two-stage Agni-IV are poised to add credible deterrence against countries which have missiles like the 11,200-km Dong Feng-31A, Mr. Chander said.
Agni-V will feature Multiple Independently-Targeted Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs) with each missile being capable of carrying 3-10 separate warheads.
To a question, Mr. Chander said “we have Rs. 20,000 crore worth production orders for Akash missile.”“By 2020, India will be among the leading countries in the missile development,” he said.
Mr. Chander said the DRDO was trying to set up an independent Centre for Directed High Energy Weapons System which would focus on the use of lasers in weapons system.
On Prahar, he said the 150—km range guided missile was being put into weaponised mode.
“It is the most cost—effective missile in its class. Army has shown good interest and we are sure it will get inducted,” Mr. Chander said.
