Boeing: Order from India to save Long Beach jobs

India’s $4.1 billion aircraft order with Boeing is boost for Long Beach factory

    http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2011-06/62167912.jpg

A C-17 cargo jet is produced at Boeing’s Long Beach factory. India’s government has approved the purchase of 10 C-17 military planes for $4.1 billion. The deal would give workers at the Long Beach plant one year of new work. In January, Boeing said it was cutting 900 of the plant’s 3,700 jobs. (Bob Chamberlin, Los Angeles Times / June 7, 2011)

Interesting, since by anyone who isn’t Indian’s estimates, the T-90 has a heavier armor layout than the Arjun.

Don’t let national fantasies stop you though!

Did you read the story about how the Arjun’s Kanchan Armor defeated all APFSDS an HESH rounds including Israeli ones and also a T 72 round from point blank range?

“With the ruggedness of the Russian airframe and the finesse of Western avionics”

Are they aware that the vast majority of the avionics are Russian and Indian of origin?

    I noticed that.
Hey buddy what do chicks know about machines πŸ˜€
Jokes apart ,cmon , its not a technical blog , read it like a little story if you will.

I can understand your logic in cases like the Tejas and Arjun.

But we are not going to develop C-130 & C-17 class airlifters over night, and Americans have a history of being reliable suppliers as long as the relationship is good.

Russians on the other hand profess to be our best buddies and stabs us behind our back when it comes to spares.

Not only those , there are other many acquisitions like 197 light utility helicopter , 35000 beretta mx4 , etc etc.
In geopolitics every “buddy” is either a business partner or a friend of convenience. If you dont want to get stabbed , then dont point your back at them:D What we can change is the attitude of the services towards homemade products.Anyway.
    ………….
C 17 at Leh. c/o Aroor. Its altitude is around 3500 m.Dont think a C 17 has landed anywhere higher than that.

Peeved IAF Looks Beyond Russia To Revive Ilyushins

    The C 130s and C17s can’t arrive fast enough.

    Russians 😑

Il 76 , C 130 , C 17.., pakfa…its all the same.We are digging ourselves quite a deep grave here.Such things are bound to happen when services dont want to invest money on indian products or R&D , on the other hand sanction billions of $$ for foreign equipment.
On a different note..why doesnt some thing similar happen to our T 90s…oh wait , it happened but still the army cant see beyond their favourite tincans and order a few more arjuns…

So yet again Isreali route was required for aa AESA radar. Its rather disturbing to see that even after getting the Greenpine years ago, India have not yet progressed on radar tech. Anyway Gujarat badly needed a good radar coverage and hope they will be installing enough of these in the region. The Armed forces biggest headache was & will be to protect the refineries in the event of hostilities.

can anyone provide the current status of the AESA t/r module development & the progress?

I dont know from where you come up with such rants.India has progressed quite a lot in radar tech. Most radars coming into service now are Indian made.Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Research_and_Development_Organisation#Radars and check the section under radars. The Indian Long Range tracking radar (LRTR) [which is partially based on the greenpine] the back bone of the ABM programme is better than the Greenpine.
As for the T/R modules are concerned , Indian GaA T/R modules are in production in some capacity , and successful functioning of prototype GaN t/r modules have been already done.

The remarks concerning the omission of (ASW) torpedo tubes seem a bit odd imho. At range, this (ASW) is mainly the job of the 2 helicopters and it seems unwise to sacrifice any of the limited number of VL cells to carry the 91RE2 missile for that purpose (leaving how many slots for the AShM variant of 3M-54 Klub family? Although that argument can be countered by pointing out that IN SH-3 Sea Kings could be used to carry and launch the 110km Sea Eagle AShM.). The role of the RBU-6000’s may be close in ASW but they may well double as a torpedo defence and diver protection (if they are RPK-8 variant)

Well yes , the main ASW operations of this ship has to come from the Seakings with torpedos and close in measures from the RBUs which the IN are very fond of.Its unclear whether the seakings still carry the sea eagle. Most probably not.upgraded seakings or replacements will be fitted with new ashms. At present there are multiple Ashms in/going to be in service from kh 35s, harpoons and exocets. So any of the above could be fitted.
As for fitting the VL cells , it has to depend on the type of mission and the sub surface threat in that scenario. In any case , ASW warfare is not the main role for this ship mainly self defence is needed. For that I think the helicopters and the RBUs will suffice.

    Hmm…so it could be 2084 after all….
    http://www.iai.co.il/sip_storage/FILES/9/38029.pdf
says air det. range of 256 nm..which is much more than 300 kms[although the export version will be downgraded in all probability] and max target of 1200!
so this is interesting eh and much needed too..

by the way aroor also changed the heading of his article from “indigenous” to “israel-built” πŸ˜€
