AFAIK all Pr.971 boats have an escape capsule, so why is the bump not present on the rest of them? Is Chakra planned to have a larger crew, requiring a bigger capsule?

Well the other Akula II boats are supposed to have anywhere between 63 – 73 crew..where as the Chakra has around 100 crew in total. So it may need a bigger capsule although I am not sure about the significance of having a larger crew..
Here is another closeup of the sail..

Well it seems to me that while it’s clear PAF cannot compete with the IAF on modern aircraft, they’re heavily investing in new capabilities like tankers, AEW&C, were the IAF seems to be slightly behind. The addition of electronic warfare systems from the US seems a bit worrying to me. They said it’s defensive only, but it would be interesting to know whether they only protect individual aircraft or if they can protect a strike package.

Everybody and their mum know that those arent for defensive purpose , but thats nothing new.Previously US have supplied paf with equipment like Sniper ATP , JDAM kits , AN/ALQ 141 etc.

The IAF’s mandate is to fight a simultaenous two front war. While IAf in its current state will be hard pressed to keep that mandate , if paf alone is considered its not a problem for the IAF.

A quantum leap in capability for the Indian Navy! Any info on what the bump on top of its sail is? I don’t think I’ve seen it on another Pr.971 boat before!

Thats the top of the underwater escape pod.

The Chakra has been retrofitted with a fin-mounted spherical escape sphere. In an emergency, the entire 100-member crew can fit into the 20-foot wide, 50-foot tall sphere and ascend to the surface.

Seems like an A5 pamphlet, could be A4 as well, but I doubt that the seeker would be wider than 8-9 inches, tops.

Should get atleast 30 – 40 km lock on range as per industry standards.

Yeah she is a beauty isnt she!
IN do have a requirement of atleast 6-8 SSNs…but majority of them will be indigenous.
And thanks to the Russkies ofcourse! Underlines the strategic partnership of our countries! Who else would have done these things for us! Cheers!:)

As an Indian I feel compelled to say that Quadbike’s views are somewhat weird..and not only on Falklands,We generally care fock all about the Falklands and who gets them..although some of us do want the Argies to win the soccer world cup once in a while..:D

Though , what do Brits get by keeping those islands? It isnt just ego/islander’s right to self determination.. I guess..access to the poles maybe/oil:confused:

I don’t blame the officers who made the presentation, its not their job they should hire dedicated PR people to do it.

Doesnt seem like you have made any presentation at any decent conference. You dont have any idea at all!
This is not a product they are trying to sell that PR people will do it!!
This is an academic presentation done by a test pilot and an aeronautical engineer on their own experience!A slick presentation is good, but the content matters much more..and here it was quite interesting!

Integrating Western weapons & systems on Russian aircraft – IAF experience [Aero India 2011]

^^ A must watch video on avionics, weapons and network integration among different types of aircraft.

    Informative.
Integration without oem support is more difficult , which many a times doesnt exist.
