Satisfied? 😉
Thanks man!
The MiG-27 is completely capable of carrying Kh-31s, the weight isn’t too different from a Kh-29 anyway.
I was more concerned about size..
No.2 sqn has a primary maritime strike role, just like No.6. They excercise with Il-38s and Tu-142s and are cued to targets by them. No podded radar.
They probably use the Kh-29L/TE and Kh-25 for the anti-ship role. Post upgrade, they probably should be able to use the Kh-31P.
Harry,if location is known why would they need to be cued by Il-38 and Tu 142s?Or did you mean they get target location from the MPAs?
And Kh-31P…seems like too big for the Mig-27 to carry IMO.
SDB= small diameter babu ? we should fit a range extention wing kit and fire
all the babus into pakistani airspace :diablo:AON I know => more tea, pakoras and biskoot time…another roll of red tape
and time wasting thats all. when the user(IAF) says its necessary the babus come up with a new rubber stamp that after due chai & biskoot sessions is stamped AON 😀
There you made a crucial mistake!babus are never small diameter..all the chai biskoot and pakoras add up over a long period of time……:dev2:
Actually I had never imagined that in 2007 people would be worrying about how to shoot down a prop passenger carrying plane:D
I agree with Trident.I think its better to go for an aircraft with a radar however small.Mig-27 with R-60 and without radar is fine for daytime, but it becomes a bit difficult at night..and thats the time when the LTTE will attack.
Mig-21-93 I dont think is a viable option.
Mig-29 last I checked came for around $20 m for a new piece. So second hand will be quite less. But unless its upgraded to SMT it wont be of any use with only A2A available.
The best solution is an armed trainer with a small radar and beefing up ground assets.I am willing to bet that if this plane is shot down most chance is it will be by AAA or SAM.
Also I have a feeling that this problem is going to get solved sooner rather than later..so after that the planes will still be in service..and with not so great/none ground attack capabilities, they are just going to be hangar queens.
Of course if they are taken on lease and came with pilots, then there nothing to object about it.
Anycase..it seems that its already been decided to go for Mig-29s.So.
Just wondering what are the hired pilots gonna say to theie mates ..
“so what are u guys going to be up against?”…
“well…..errrr….”
I don’t want to start a flame war, but how would a HJT-36 (which isn’t fully developed yet) be better than the K-8 you already have at intercepting a Zlin?
HJT-36 is better than K-8 susbsystem wise atleast. But I guess hyperwarps correct..and it makes no sense to give away the sole prototype to SLAF.
Dont want t start a flamewar but thats that.
Your most Welcome 😀
rubik, I find that whole soufa avionics package deal a bit weird, unlikely to happen the way its stated, because We have our own fleetwide datalinking programme which is being constantly upgraded installed and upgraded, We have our own radios, HAL is in a JV with SAMTEL to produce MFD’s better than what Elbit has so far given us, We have our own, Say the HUD for example, Our HUD developed by CSIO for LCA has 25 degrees of FOV while the Elta one used in sukhoi has 22 degrees of FOV. (correct me if I’m wrong).
I know ,I know..thats just for keeping people like scooter interested.:D 😀 😀
:p
Nick check PM.
I think Kams was talking about this report:
One more free radar to SL, IJT-36 proposed for tackling LTTE in Air
May 07, 2007 (FIDSNS)The daring air raids by the LTTE have pushed the Sri Lankan government to acquire air defence equipment and seek help from friendly countries, including India. Earlier, India had worked out an air defence system for the capital city of Colombo and given two 2D radars free of charge. An Indian team had arrived in Colombo to examine the working of the 2D radars and set up one more.
Indian HAL HJT-36 or similar aircraft has been recommended for tackling the slow speed Zlin Z-143 aircraft of the LTTE.

Also, there are blind zones behind radars which guard certain sectors. Those radars are temporarily jammed during insertion of UAVs into those blind zones and then at the time of their retrieval.
Avionics bet:
The Israeli Soufa Avionics Package and Weapons Systems package are confirmed to be top contenders for the Indian Air Force’s 126 MultiRole Combat Aircraft.
These systems are being considered regardless of whichever fighter jet wins the M-MRCA contract. In addition an Indian Air Force team has visited Israel to test and witness trials of the same.
The package consists of an advanced avionics suite including general avionics computer, colour display processors and interfaces all produced by Elbit Systems. The communications systems include a Rafael UHF/VHF radio and an HF radio, Elta satellite communications and an IAI integrated tactical video data link. The navigation system includes a combined ring laser gyro inertial navigation system and global positioning system (RLGINS/GPS) and a digital terrain system. Rafael developed the algorithms for the digital terrain system.
While the Israeli product is deemed highly off in New Delhi, proper procedures and competitive trials will, however, be undertaken as per official procedure.
but SCALP/Storm Shadow can hit the target :dev2:
Ha ha 😀
Hmm..N011M actual detection ranges said by IAF pilots are hmmm…;)
I bet if it were a western radar …people would be going over the moon.;)
:diablo:
Btw..does any body here know whether Mica has any operational kill?:)
