Thanks MarkG
What would have been the typical squadron strength then?
It happened in 2010 at Mendlesham, Suffolk:

First for the count: The late Dr H. Hamilton’s Hornet, Ipswich Airport circa 1977. Last report was it is now somewhere in Norfolk

I know it’s off topic but is XV281 lacking a side facing nose recon camera?
Grateful if anyone can post an A Sqn AAEE zap.
That explains it:stupid:
If anyone has a copy of A History of Royal Air Force Northolt 90th Anniversary Edition from yonks ago and no longer wants it, I’d be very pleased to receive it. Willing to refund P & P.

Wot, no Doves?;)
This must be a ‘modern’ pic (?) because I do not recognise the steel building behind the Bulldog.
Just spoke to the compiler of the publication and he assures me the drawing has not been reversed. (the swastika raised my suspicion) Someone else who talked to the gentleman is also under the impression that the crash was on White Hill, Wiltshire.
Thanks everyone for your contributions.
I have a photo of a crashed 312 Squadron Spitfire LF Mk IXc and because of the force of the impact, there is a hole where the cannon should be. I might be wrong of course and the station armourers got there before the photographer! Pilot survived.
Good observation nevertheless.
There was aircraft recognition books readily available. Even my dad owned one, which I now posess. So probably a combination of both. Another question to ask him.
What I find perplexing is the lack of camouflage netting because neither side wanted their a/c in enemy possession.
What significance the wing cannons? Everything is in accordance with a Me Bf 109E
“have you been to Kent in 1940?” might suffice;)
Where is it? I can simply ask him if he ever visited such-and-such place in 1940.
Thanks RAFRochford, thanks Ian. I’m beginning to think the elderly gentleman is confusing two seperate events. I’ll do my best to make sure his drawring is not attributed to Wiltshire.
