Even taking the order of battle for August 1940, 1/JG.52 flying from Coquelles to Cherbourg and then to Wiltshire, does seem strange.
I welcome any suggestions anyone has.
Very much look forward to previously unppublished pictures. especially of Vampire T.11s. The museum ones are well-documented on the internet
Thanks Versuch
The word “ab” underneath the emblem translates as “from” (mistake in book?). While the crashes you list are South East. Salisbury/Pitton is South (I was taught at school cardinal points are spelt with capital letters!!) All helpful info in getting there:eagerness:
Such a large emblem, it’s not surprising that he remembered it, just different location – right of cross:
Thanks everyone!
Mike, the ‘dog’ is running right to left so that’s an advancement. No numbers nor chevrons.
Obviously he was a young boy when he drew the plane from memory soon afterwards and possibly did not even know what a boar was. So that makes sense.
Thanks mizmaized
Googling this leads you to Doug John’s page on Exeter Memories– an interesting read.
Any pics of, what appears to have been a little-photographed, T.11 Vampire, very welcome.
Thanks everyone for your contributions
Do any pictures exist of the 502 and 613 squadron T.11s?
Any suggestions where I might look gratefully accepted.
Thanks vampiredave
Just what I was seeking to find out
Please, what’s the source of your helpful info?
“white smoke” can also be vapour trails?

Another possibility with the latest photograph is to ask:
http://www.suffolkaviationheritage.org.uk/contactus.htm
about access to the Luftwaffe aerial photograph of Martlesham Heath. There is a 1946 aerial view but a lot can happen in a decade.
Sadly, the very person who could give you a definitive reply has just sadly passed away.
Might be worth posting this latest pic up on:

among others.
Any bombing trial might have been observed from the building, as seen in the sixth photo:

Reference to a Belfast Truss Hangar here but will take some searching:

Perhaps during the VooDoo and Phantom days, not many complaints during the A-10 era.
The base did make allowances for when concerts were being held at Snape Maltings.
And the base liasion officer made a big song and dance about it to all and sundry.
Esslingen is rather a long way to go to see…..what looks like a transport for bulls?!:dev2:
